    Role Responsibilities

    The SPS Manager will have 5 direct reports and will be working with the Director, Specialized Program Services. You will be responsible for managing the Occupational Health and Safety Specialized Professional Services (SPS) unit comprised of engineering, occupational hygiene, medical, radiation and mining areas within Occupational Health & Safety Program Delivery.

    As SPS Manager, you will provide leadership and direction to a staff of occupational health and safety (OHS) specialists and subject matter experts responsible for providing OHS inspections, investigations, strategy, policy, and other stakeholders with technical support related to OHS. As a member of the management team, you will also provide expert input into the establishment of department and branch priorities, goals, and program initiatives including the allocation of resources.

    At the work site level, in this role, you will plan and implement operational programs and improvements in the provision of technical services for the area, encouraging and coordinating innovative input from staff. This is a key position in linking the mission, vision, and objectives of the department to the delivery of technical services, meet branch/business plan goals and objectives, develop, and oversee implementation of unit plans and programs.

    As SPS Manager, you will also be accountable in building relationships with other departments and clients to facilitate understanding and compliance to legislation and operational policy. You will also collaborate with other compliance managers and division management to ensure consistent application of legislation; its interpretation and enforcement and provide input concerning occupational health and safety policy and legislated standards changes.

    You will also make decisions on issues or situations not addressed by established procedure, respond to issues within a frequently politically charged environment and must exercise discretion and balanced judgement in choosing an approach to resolving and managing these issues effectively.
