    The Agriculture Research Branch of the ministry offers programs that provide funding for projects in research, demonstration and adoption of new technologies.

    The Ministry of Agriculture is seeking a self-motivated, detail oriented, innovative and client focused individual to provide administrative support for the Agriculture Research Branch.

    Reporting to the Director, the Database Coordinator will:

  • Administer, update and maintain the integrity of the Agriculture Research Branch database.
  • Maintain and ensure the accuracy of large, interconnected datasets. This includes developing and refining and proactively developing information libraries to ensure quick and easy access to key information.
  • Retrieve, compile, evaluate and analyze data and develop meaningful reports in response to information requests.
  • Develop contracts, publish final project reports, and track confidentiality dates.
  • Develop and continually refine scripts, models and applications to automate complex or repetitive tasks and prepare training and procedural documents for internal branch colleagues.
  • Provide administrative support for the online application system including troubleshooting and responding to various types of inquiries to support both internal and external clients.
  • Build and maintain a close working relationship with external clients and internal team members.
  • Work with other branches and external service providers to ensure that branch needs are effectively communicated needed and support testing.Provide back-up support the Accounting Clerk and perform other administrative tasks as needed.

    In order to be successful in the role, the ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database packages and be able to retrieve, compile, evaluate and organize information to respond to inquiries and produce in-depth documents or reports.
  • Knowledge of programming concepts, techniques and languages.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • The ability to track and ensure the accuracy of large and interconnected datasets.
  • The ability to diagnose technical problems in order to determine the true cause of the problem and provide a workable solution in a reasonable timeframe.
  • The ability to proactively design or adapt existing systems/applications to improve branch workflow and program delivery.
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles.
  • The ability to work well independently and part of a team.
  • Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through a relevant two-year diploma and technical training with various data management systems and applications.
