    About the Organization

    At Ronald McDonald House Charities British Columbia and Yukon (RMH BC), we envision a province where families stay close to their sick children. Today, 2 out of 3 Canadians live in a city or town without a children's hospital. Our Mission is to give sick children the healing power of being together with family.

    As a champion of family-centered care, we enable access to children's hospitals by providing families with sick children accommodation, meals, and wellness programs that support their emotional and physical well-being.

    In 1983, the first RMH BC House opened its doors in Vancouver with a 13-Bedroom House, and over the years, with an increase in demand for this essential service, construction of a new building was underway. In 2014, a 73-bedroom House was unveiled on the grounds of BC Children's Hospital along with a new 2,000 sq. ft. RMH Family Room in Surrey Memorial Hospital. As the second-largest House in Canada and one of the largest in the world, RMH BC will continue to grow and meet the needs of families across BC and Yukon.

    Our team is the backbone of our organization—serving our families, supporting volunteers and donors, and spreading awareness every single day.

    About the Position

    **Please note, this position is supported by the Canada Summer Jobs program, specific criteria for applicant eligibility are listed below. Applications will be collected, and interviews will be completed through April, ideal start date will be beginning of May**

    We are seeking a Family Service Summer Associate who will work collaboratively within the Family Services team to support the delivery of program and house operations. This is a full-time contract position.

    Duties include, but are not limited to:

    • Support Front Desk duties at the House as needed including:
      • General Reception duties including answering and directing calls and emails, sorting mail and receiving deliveries.
      • Support daily wellness screening
    • Food and Wellness Activities Support
    • Works with Recreation Therapist and Food Services Coordinator to execute family programming as needed.
    • General House operations support and organization of supply rooms

    Job Specific Competencies and Skills

    • Alignment with the mission and values of Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon
    • Ability to represent the House with a polished, positive and professional demeanor and attitude at all times
    • Compassionate and caring, organized and detail-oriented, driven to help those in need, passionate for mission-driven work, positive and optimistic, motivated to improve the lives of families whose child is receiving medical care
    • Must be able to work a flexible schedule that includes evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the organization in supporting families.
    • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet timelines.
    • Organized, good time management, effective at completing tasks, solution oriented
    • Other duties as directed by manager

    Experience and Educational Requirements

    • University or College student or graduate within social work, psychology or in the social services area, preferred.
    • Previous non-profit experience an asset

    This position is supported by the Canada Summer Jobs program and applicants must meet the following program requirements:

    • Is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
    • Is a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; and
    • Have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations
