    Job Description

    Position Summary: Under the general supervision of the Manager - Indigenous Relations and the technical direction and guidance of Section staff, assists with administrative tasks, and the planning and implementation of summer and early autumn events and activities which contribute to the implementation of the Indigenous Relations and Inclusion Strategy. Will also take part in ceremony when are where appropriate, and interact with other youth, key partners, and community members.

    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists the Indigenous Relations Liaison with planning and implementation of summer and early autumn events
  • Prepares event plans and helps with event logistics such as event set-up and tear-down, collecting supplies, preparing agendas, etc
  • Coordinates various elements of events, including entertainers, speakers, etc.
  • Liaises with event partners, sponsors and volunteers
  • Prepares and plans event promotion, including posting to the Section's social media pages
  • Participates in ceremony when and where appropriate
  • Works collaboratively with other youth, summer students and community members on joint/collaborative projects and initiatives

    • QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education/Experience:

  • Secondary school diploma and currently enrolled in a post-secondary program at a College or University or equivalent work experience

    • Skills & Abilities:

  • Must be able to read, write & understand English
  • Must be highly motivated and work well in a team environment
  • Must be proficient in the use of computers and current related software, particularly Microsoft Office, and social media platforms
  • Must be able to deal with the public and key partners in a courteous and tactful manner
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with other Section staff

  • Knowledge of Indigenous culture and/or languages
