    Location: Vancouver – Granville Office, *Hybrid role

    Reporting to : Manager, Development

    Job status: Permanent Full time, 1.0 FTE (75 hours bi-weekly)

    Compensation: $64,146 - $71,567

    Canuck Place Children's Hospice (CPCH) is British Columbia's recognized pediatric palliative care provider.     This role is in a hybrid environment, where the incumbent will be responsible for managing all aspects of donor relationships.This will include donor face-to-meetings, and attending stewardship and cultivation events which the Planned Giving Officer will be expected to attend.Additionally, a minimum expectancy of 4 days a month at a physical work location is expected for Development team members.During onboarding, and to meet team needs, some additional time may be required in-office in order to familiarize new hires with the work of our organization, and to meet the needs of the organization and the Major Gifts team.

    SUMMARY

    Planned giving is in an exciting growth phase at Canuck Place. This is a pivotal time for an enthusiastic candidate to leverage past success, enhance existing fundraising and communications practices, and optimize planned giving systems and data. We support team member creativity, innovation and co-creation of fundraising efforts. We are looking for someone who is energized by and interested in gift and estate planning, and in building lasting relationships with legacy donors. Ideally, the incumbent will be keen to work with a truly collaborative team that integrates planned giving with major gifts, annual, events, 50/50 and direct mail fundraising to help grow legacy giving.

    Working closely with and reporting to the Manager of Development, the Philanthropy Officer, Planned Giving is a key member of the Major Gifts team responsible for engaging a donor portfolio focused on planned and legacy giving, overseeing estate administration while working with our Finance team, and supporting communications and marketing strategies focused on Planned Giving program growth. The Philanthropy Officer, Planned Giving is responsible for identifying new relationships with donors as well as strengthening existing long-term relationships with donors that are built on a clear understanding of donors' passions and values.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Oversees estate administration in coordination with Finance team, and manages incoming revenue from estates. Maintains files and records for estates, codes estate gifts and corresponds with donors and advisors.
    • Raise and increase planned giving revenue by identifying, stewarding and cultivating and soliciting a portfolio of planned giving donors and prospective donors, doing so by working in collaboration with annual giving, events and major gifts. Applies a disciplined moves management approach current and future legacy giving strategies.
    • Develops lasting relationships with legacy donors and potential donors, with a focus on in-person meetings and personalized communication.
    • Working with the Manager, Development, manages the legacy giving donor recognition program and associated activities.
    • Creates and customize donor materials and related organizational communications, including donor briefings, proposals and stewardship materials.
    • Works collaboratively with a cross-functional team to lead and host engaging events for legacy donors.
    • Supports strategies to engage development team, management team, the Board, and leadership volunteers in the cultivation of new bequest expectancies.
    • Monitors and tracks legacy giving expectancies across multiple fiscal years, completes data analysis and evaluation.
    • Records all legacy giving donor activity in Virtuous, our donor CRM.
    • Assumes other related responsibilities, as assigned.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • A related degree or diploma from a recognized educational institute or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
    • Ideally 2 - 5 years of experience of progressive non-profit fundraising experience is optimal, including experience working with an individual giving, major gifts or planned giving portfolio.
    • Involvement with the Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) is an asset as are knowledge of tax laws, regulations and compliance issues that govern charitable giving.
    • Transferable experience in a legal, finance, grant-making or research environment with experience reviewing complex legal or accounting documents.
    • Knowledge of, or interest in acquiring, financial regulations and strategies in relation to tax benefits and strategies used by donors which influence Legacy decision-making. Financial acumen to work with wealth managers advising clients as to giving strategies is an asset.
    • Face-to-face experience in soliciting or stewarding donors.

    • Able to thrive and effectively manage priorities in a dynamic environment.
    • Demonstrated ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality at all times, in working with sensitive and confidential information.
    • Strong Microsoft Office Suite computer skills, and experience with Virtuous, Raiser's Edge or similar donor CRM system. Exposure to and familiarity with remote work and planning software such as Trello, Slack and Teams would be an asset.
    • Public presentation skills, both in person and virtually.
    • Strong attention to detail (specifically with Excel, project timelines and database management).
    • A commitment to inclusive fundraising practices.
    • Clear and valid BC driver's license

    • Evidence of Health Canada approved vaccinations must be provided prior to your first day of work.
    • Flexibility is necessary, as this position may require occasional weekend and evening work and travel within and outside the Lower Mainland.
