    Description

    The Opportunity:

    The City of Red Deer, Parks & Public WorksDepartment is currently recruiting seasonal Parks Labourer 1 for the Infrastructure& Waskasoo Park Services section. The ideal candidate will have relatedexperience, a good work ethic, and the ability to work in a team-orientedenvironment.

    The Parks Labourer 1 - IWPS positions are keypositions, which allow the Parks team to provide seasonal operational servicelevels. This position will be responsible to perform various labour, maintenance, and construction duties within city parks at various picnic shelters, washrooms, playgrounds, trails,and other outdoor summer and winter facilities.

    As our preferred candidate, youwill have:

  • Grade 8 or equivalent
  • First aid course is desirable.
  • Valid Alberta Driver's License
  • Six months' experience
  • Ability to perform basic labouring activities.
  • Ability to operate and maintain related small,motorized equipment (e.g. lawnmowers, chainsaws, etc.) and to use a variety ofstandard labouring tools.
  • Ability to cooperate with colleagues as a team, and tounderstand and follow instructions.
  • Ability to exert frequent physical effort (e.g.planting, digging, pruning, operating mowers, erecting rink boards, playgroundand other equipment) and to work in fatiguing positions (e.g. bending,kneeling, etc.).
  • Ability to work outside in most types of weather.
  • Must be able to work independently and/or with a crew.
  • Ability to exercise care and to follow all safetypolicies and procedures, particularly in high public-use areas.

    Remuneration:

    $25.40 to $26.89 per hour

    Hours of Work:

    80hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, occasional eveningsand weekends when required.

    Additional Information:

    Theexpected duration for these seasonal positions may be between 4 and 11 months.
