Responsibilities:
- Perform repairs of copper and fibre optic cables using appropriate test and work equipment
- Perform buried cable locates
- Repair cable air pressure troubles
- Splice both copper and fibre optic cables
- To climb poles and work aloft, lift and carry heavy tools and equipment such as ladders, work underground in places such as manholes.
- Efficiently plan work and travel according to priorities
- Plan and order all required materials
- Inspect work equipment and vehicle in order to ensure proper and safe operation
- Maintain NorthernTel's outside plant network and report any situations at risk or potential problems
- Ability to travel throughout the NTL system and on occasion, outside the NTL territory
- May perform residential and business installation and repair (I&R) tasks as required
- Complete all other tasks as required
Qualifications:
- Community College diploma in electronics or telecommunications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- In lieu of the Community College diploma, relevant experience with the splicing, troubleshooting and maintenance of both copper and fibre optic cables
- Must have good exposure to both fusion and mechanical splicing techniques as it relates to fibre
- Ability to read work and construction plans with the use of Gmobile and viewer
- Knowledge of different cable repair test and work equipment
- Knowledge of cable air pressure system
- Valid Class G driver's license is essential
Abilities:
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
- Communicate and problem solving skills
- Good organisation skills
- Although part of a team, ability to work independently, with mínimal supervision
- To work different shifts and to work overtime as required, on short notice, to meet customer commitments
