    ESL Camp Assistant Director (Summer Contract Position)

    City Residential Programme

    Canadian International Student Services (CISS) is actively seeking to fill the position of Assistant Director for one of its city residential programmes, located at a University of Toronto downtown campus. CISS operates top quality language learning programmes for international students ranging in age from 12 – 18 years. Our city residential programmes are structured so that students study English in the morning and do activities and excursions in the afternoon.

    The successful candidate is mature, possesses good communication skills, and is a strong leader and team builder. The candidate will have experience in education and administration, have strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Previous programming and supervisory experience in is an asset.

    Job Overview:

    The Assistant Director works closely with the Director to ensure effective and efficient operation of the programme during the summer. The Assistant Director sets the tone for students and staff alike - ensuring that the CISS values are visible, promoted and central to life at the programme. The Assistant Director will generally be responsible for supporting all matters in connection with the organisation and operation of the program: including the selection and implementation of the program; and the safety and supervision of all persons, personnel, and facilities. The Assistant Director helps to lead a team of approximately 25 staff members who will receive regular feedback and coaching from the candidate selected.

    Specific duties include but are not limited to:

    • Assist with training and orientation of staff prior to camp and provide feedback and coaching throughout the summer.
    • Ensure open lines of communication with site staff, programme staff and central operations staff.
    • Assist with rooming, arrival/departure plans, and staff scheduling.
    • Assist with programme planning, execution, and supervision.

    The programme runs from late June to Mid-August, however, the Assistant Director will need to co-ordinate some elements of the camp prior to the program start and will have to familiarise him/herself with the site, the excursions, the program and all the logistics of the endeavour.

    A detailed training manual and guidance from the CISS Head Office is available.

    Essential Qualifications:

    • Experience managing people and programs
    • Proficient computer skills - Excel, Word, Outlook
    • Ability to dedicate the entire summer to the programme and available during the spring to assist with hiring and planning
    • Ability to live on-site during the summer
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced and evolving environment while juggling many responsibilities, deadlines, projects, and budgets
    • Strong leadership abilities
    • Police Reference Check required
