The BAC has a long history of creating a presence for the arts in the City of Burnaby. As a non-profit and registered charity, we maintain a professional constitution with by-laws, and conduct an annual financial review. The organization started in the early 1960s when local art groups organized and advocated for a permanent home for the fledgling Burnaby Art Gallery. Since those early years, the BAC has taken part in improving the cultural life of the city of Burnaby and has evolved to become a dynamic community-oriented organization with many successful arts programs and projects to its credit. Our programs are offered for free, by donation, or highly subsidized to reach the wider community. For example, the Deer Lake Art Gallery is open to the public by donation. We also host live music, screenings, and performing arts events throughout the year to showcase the diverse range of arts that reside in Burnaby. By partnering with the municipality and local organizations, we're able to reach more communities across the entire city and throughout the Lower Mainland. Our programs bring theatre performances across all the local parks, and visual arts collaborative activations inside and outside the Deer Lake Gallery and Burnaby Arts Council offices and through out the city of Burnaby at large. In recognition of Canada's Indigenous community, the Burnaby Arts Council makes efforts to invite Indigenous artists to share their artistic practices through exhibitions, talks and workshops. Artists and creative performances come from various cultural backgrounds and are encouraged to share musical styles from their cultures. Visual artists showcase the unique perspectives that have been shaped by their personal experiences and cultures. We continue to develop an arts presence that is as diverse as the community that we serve and have a renewed and energized mandate to encourage community dialogue by presenting diverse exhibitions and activations. With regards to our long-running Summer Theater Program, BAC has a renewed dedication to promoting emerging and marginalized talent through new work. Our diverse performances for 2023 include collaborations that will aim to engage Burnaby and adjacent cities' audiences with some quality musical theatre, new perspectives, and memorable stories and songs.

The ensemble of 3 performers and Stage Manager, will develop, creatively produce and perform a family oriented outdoor touring production for parks in Burnaby. As a Stage Manager, you will become project manager to the summer theatre production. On a daily basis, you will oversee the execution of the team's creative vision by providing notes and preparing rehearsal reports, while overseeing progress on a set project timeline. You will also manage daily administration from managing a budget, sourcing props and costumes, developing a marketing strategy, and scheduling meetings, rehearsal, and other team activities. The Stage Manager will be responsible for weekly updates to the BAC Executive Director.

Details:
- Anticipated Start Date: hours per week, for 9 weeks - Must be under 30 years of age at the start of the employment; - Must be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment*; and, have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

Responsibilities:

Prepare for auditions

- Assist with contracting actors - Be responsible for creating the rehearsal and performance schedule - Be present at all rehearsals and performances - Complete detailed rehearsal reports and other paperwork - Drive performers to venues and book car share vehicles - Liaise between theatre actors and program coordinator - Collected cheques from venues and check in with on-site contact - Budget management - Create marketing and communication materials to promote the production - Purchase supplies if needed, assist with sourcing costumes/props - Assist with some pre-production and post-production tasks

Qualifications:

Fluent in the English language
- Post-Secondary education
