Another opinion from The Great White North

Another opinion from The Great White North

WHERE HAVE ALL
THE MAYBES GONE?

I am actually old enough to remember when some
countries were governed by a consensus of fair-
minded people on the left and on the right.

These people, despite their ideological differences,
were able to listen to opposing points of view and
incorporate the best ideas from both.

There was a simple reason for that. They worked
for the people who elected them. The people who
had faith in their ability to work together and find the
solutions that were best for everyone.

Governments that worked this way tended to have
both the best social programs to protect the people
and a healthy private sector to build the economy.

But somewhere along the line that slowly started
to change. Perhaps it was brought on by the high cost
of campaigning and the corporate sector realizing
that they could trade money for influence. And once
that idea took hold everything started to go to hell.

The willingness to work together turned into
blanket opposition to anything the government
wanted to do to benefit the people.

Soon, governments of maybes became governments
of NOs. Because the NOs were all beholden to the
people who gave them the big bucks.

Sadly one of out most cherished institutions,

government, has became all about the money.
And all the maybes, well, they've 2A

just disappeared into the deep

black hole of greed.
