THE NEXT HEATWAVE

‘The world is breaking into pieces
Parts on the left...parts on the right
You gotta work hard to make sure
You're not stuck in the middle late at night
Because the sun is moving closer
And the moon is far from where it belongs
And you better have you act together
Before the next heatwave comes along

‘The priests are doing land office business
Reclaiming lost souls by the ton
But just be careful what they tell you
‘Cause they're only looking out for number one
And the nights that used to be so sweet
Are smelling more like something's wrong
You better have your road kit packed up tight
Before the next heatwave comes along

You can stay drunk or you can stay high
‘There ain't much difference anymore
An altered view of reality is all
‘That will save your sanity for sure
Because the temperature is rising
And the world will be owned
By the lucky and the strong
You better find yourself a hole to hide in
When the next heatwave comes along

You say it’s only summertime
And you've been through this all before
But now you're looking out your window
And for a second there, you're not really sure
‘Cause the wind is blowing harder
And the crackle of the burning forests
Feels so wrong
And there won't be any place to run to
When the next heatwave comes along
