Couch Potato Chronicles for October 6

THE BILLION DOLLAR CODE
(3 SPUDS) (NETFLIX)

INTERWEB BLURB: Two German computer pio-
neers who go to court in the fight against an
apparently invincible opponent in order to be
recognized as the inventor of the Google Earth
algorithm. The series illuminates both the hacker
scene in post-reunification Berlin in the 90s and
the early days of big idea development for the
web.

MY BLURB: This is a four-part limited series that
tells the story of two nerds who invent what
would later become Google Earth and have their
idea essentially stolen from them by Google.

I had never heard about this conflict or the tri-
al that followed some 20 years later, but it's an
absolutely fascinating story well told.

It's a German production so parts of it are in
German and other parts in English, but that
didn’t detract from the message value or the
performances of the actors involved.

This is a fascinating look at the greed factor in
big business, and the way the system is set up for
massive companies like Google to acquire pretty
much whaever they need at prices well below
what that are worth.

Watching this kinda pissed me off, but really
had me cheering for the underdogs here.
