Monday Poem

MY OWN RESURRECTION My depth of vision deepens As the earth light fades to black I'm flying with a one-way monkey Strapped tightly to my back He's whispering terrors in my ear Trying to induce a heart attack Slowly he twists the screws of fate And my mind stretches on the rack I float through an endless current Of pale, gelatinous blue ‘The history of the universe unfolds But there's nothing for me to do I feel so safe and self-contained Devoid of any point of view No feeling for the eternal lies Or whatever's temporarily true lam finally free of my body 1 am finally acutely aware Of just how light the soul can be When the carcass is no longer there I have no eyes but see clearly now ‘Through the neon and the freon glare I have no ears but the singularity Of all sounds is vibrating there And I seem to sense a strange new wave Of inanimate perfection As if my body was taken away Solely for my own protection As if it would somehow damage my soul Making it useless to divine inspection But it's all past me now as I revel in ‘The pure joy of my own resurrection COPYRIGHT 2023, JIM MURRAY MURMARKETING
