How many eggs do I have?

A slightly different Halloween post.

I sometimes play games on Facebook even though I realize that they are used by Trolls to gather information. My cousin Becky put a puzzle on and I read it and responded with my answer, but I was wrong. Here is her puzzle, I suspect none of you will get it wrong.

Read carefully and slowly: it's a brain exercise!!

If I had 4 eggs🥚🥚🥚🥚

A thief gives me 3🥚🥚🥚

My farm rooster lays 5 eggs🥚🥚🥚🥚🥚

How many eggs do I have? 🤔

I went back and re-read the puzzle and realized the mistake I had made. When I posted the correct answer, she said to me, I was surprised when you got it wrong”. I replied, “You taught me a good lesson.”

No matter how smart we think we are there is always far more going on that we are yet to see, Even now. So, when I am feeling bored or lonely again, I look a little closer.

When my grandson comes to visit from Australia, we sometimes play the game “Where's Waldo?” I find that this game is an exceptionally good game in stretching one’s mind. I find it easy sometimes but other times I find it awfully hard. As we get older playing games is a good way to keep our mind focused. When I got my new phone, I started to play solitaire and have about a 75%-win rate, but I started with the easy games and have moved to the medium-hard games. One day I will move to the more difficult games.

What do you do to keep your mind active and young? Besides playing games and writing, I listen to many different types of music and I also physically keep active by playing golf and walking. By the way, you may have noticed I have not given the answer to the puzzle. If you comment or give an answer, I will tell you if you are right or wrong. Have fun.

The answer I was looking for is in the wording of the question, as is the answer I was expecting. So here is the first clue: There was an old saying "If wishes were horses then beggars would ride" which suggests if wishing could make things happen, then we would have everything we want including eggs but we all know that wishes don't make things come true most times. Another clue, the thief did give me the eggs.

Here's the logic ...'roosters don't lay eggs'. So, the puzzling puzzle is solved by dismissing the statement.:)

First of all, Royce, roosters don’t lay eggs, so this statement can be dismissed. Then it’s unlikely that a thief would give you rather than sell you stolen eggs, unless trying to ingratiate him or herself with you, having surreptitiously stolen them from you in the first place. It follows that you probably still have the four eggs you started with, unless, like me, eggs don’t last very long in your household, in which case it’s time to get down to your local friendly supermarket and stock up. 🤗

John, you are correct that there are no right or wrong answers just some that are better than others and you are also correct there is only one answer that fits the interpretation I and Becky had of the problem. I am not sure that by default I said 3 was not correct, but if I did I was wrong.

Royce, thank you it proves my firm belief there are no right or wrong answers, just some that are better than others. There are multiple possible answers, but only one fits your and Becky's interpretation of the puzzle. To prove me incorrect, you have prove my answers are impossible, and yours is the only possible one. Incidently I gave you three answers 8 5 and 3. Am I to assume none tally with your answer. Bingo roosters dont lay eggs. So the answer is either 7 or 3. Since by default you suggested 3 wasnt the answer. Then it must be 7 There Ive offered a new answer and disproved my original offers.

Hi John, love your logic, but the answer is not correct

I think the answer is 8 Why? I had 4 eggs, but havnt got them now. I was given three eggs, and the rooster laid five eggs making 8. Of course it could be 5, as the thief gave me three eggs he stole from the rooster's five. Then again the thief may have smashed 2 eggs then the answer is three. Like the answer to question to an accountant about what is 2+2? The answer being what would you like it to be? So what would you like the answer to be ,and I will try to oblige.
