On Getting The Government We Deserve
My sister, and those who read my stuff regularly already know this, is very smart. She sends me all kinds of things to look at that I’m sure she hopes will make me smarter myself.
A couple days ago she sent me this link, which is part of an interview with some cat named Simon Sinek who is a professional smart guy, TED talker, book writer, astute observer and solid communicator… you know, one of those Malcolm Gladwell types who knows a lot of stuff about a lot of stuff.

I encourage you to have a look at this, because for me at least, it explained a lot about one of the reasons Trump could have come to power.
This, of course does not negate any of Trump’s shortcomings. Any sane person has already seen that he is pretty much chronically narcissistic, exquisitely self-aggrandizing, drunk on power, a world class bullshit artist, a greedy bastard and the loosest cannon that has existed in American politics in a hell of a long time.
But Mr Sinek’s point of view on all of this is quite interesting.
What’s sad is that the vast majority of the people who voted for Trump are either too ignorant, idiotic or delusional for this message to get through to them, even if they knew where to look for it.
I personally think that while this could indeed be filed under 'singing to the choir', it’s a very interesting indictment, not just of the people who voted for Trump, but the people who voted against Hilary Clinton.
If you’re an American regardless of your political leanings, you should listen to this guy. He gets it.
Have a great Labour Day.

Thanks John, I really posted this because I thought the point this guy was making was kind of interesting. My partner (Charlene Norman) calls these people arm chair quarterbacks and gives me a hard time because I keep behaving like a charter member of the Resistance. But that's OK. A great deal of the country needs to wake up and if I can be a little chime in that alarm clock so be it. I do this because I am a Canadian and Canadians to care about their neighbours.
