This is Not A Post. It's a Question and a Request for Input

This is Not Really A Post. It's a Question and a Request for Input

I'm writing an update to my Twitter Management System. It involves a new way to schedule tweets. Right now, I schedule either by time lapse or by pre-established times. When I say, pre-established times, I really mean a randomly generated minute within a specific half hour block.

Here's my problem. I write a lot. So, the tweets that promote my posts are tripping over each other.

I'm afraid I may be spamming.

In April, The System tweeted 1786 times. That's just for my account.

We need to tweet often. A twitter feed zooms along at a very good clip. A single tweet is invisible. I was going to say it's like a fart in a hurricane, but I decided to be polite.

Yes, we need to tweet often, but maybe not that often.

beBee causes some of my worry

No, seriously, it does, and that's a good thing.

It used to be that I just needed to schedule for 8:00 to 22:00, GMT-5. That would cover just about everybody.

Not anymore.

Now, thanks to beBee, interactors are everywhere. All time zones are in play. My twitter presence needs to match.

It's a Good Thing / Bad Thing paradox. I like the added reach. I just need to adjust for it.

One side of me says I'll need to increase the number of tweets to cover the extra time zones.

That's no problem for busy accounts, and most of my followers are busy accounts. That's the type of account I target. Last I checked, my average follower had a little over 4000 followers.

I may be wrong, I don't think a guy like John White (@juanblanco76 ) thinks I spam him. John's account is big and busy.

There are also new accounts. People who reached out after my Twitter BadAss series. They are just starting their followings. People like Pamela Williams (@PIWillia).

Pam just might be cursing me these days.

Here's what I'm thinking

I need to create a scheduling script that phases itself out over time. I'm thinking of something like this:
  • 12 tweets 2 hrs apart for the first day. (12/day)
  • 18 tweets 4 hrs apart for three days (6/day)
  • 12 tweets 8 hrs apart for four days (3/day)
  • 14 tweets 12 hrs apart for a week (2/day)
  • 7 tweets 24 hrs apart for a week (1/day)
  • 12 tweets 60 hrs apart for a month (3/week time-shifted)
  • 4 tweets 170 hrs apart for a month (1/week time shifted)

That makes for 77 tweets per post spread over nearly 3 months. That's about half as many tweets as I schedule per post in a month.

Thoughts? Questions? Suggestions?

Please add them in the comments. Please include the number of twitter followers you have and/or your handle. This isn't a follower grab. Active accounts have faster feeds. I'd love to hear from both big and small Twitterites.

If you prefer you can use a range like <500 followers, or 1000-2000. It would help a lot.

Let's make it more interesting.
Everyone who makes a valid suggestion will be in a draw for a three-month access to The System. That's a U$450 value that is usually only available to my writing clients.

So, how about it? Can you help a brother Bee out?

Paul \ You have jotted down good insights. ..sometimes, frankness is worthwhile to make things explicit. Tweets, remarks, reflections or call timely synopsis. ..everything has to be sensible like measured doses and that can be more impacting and beneficial to our health. Moderation, at regular intervals, works, but for beBee, we have work harder to make the ligament of interaction flourishing. :)

Actually, Deb Helfrich Tweet me what you want to push and I'll run it through my account mentioning you.

Well, Deb Helfrich, I worked out a series of possible hacks for book sales but haven't been able to actually test them. My book should be ready pretty soon and we'll see. Yes, I'm hack-obsessed. I blame/thank Gary for that. I spoke to the guys at Octoblu and they will be integrating a Google Sheets Thing. Once that's ready, we'll have a place to store data. Then, I'll do a Twitter Badder Ass series where we build a The System Lite. I don't have a time-frame on that. For now, you have two choices. One, use IFTTT to tweet every 2 hours and 15 minutes. That way the actual time of the tweet will vary. Twitter may not like that if it flags it as repetitions. It may be a better idea to make 3 or 4 recipes that fire in sequence. A better way is to use Octoblu to tweet three or four versions in sequence. I'll go over there and make a Flow to auto-tweet regularly. I'll let you know when it's done.

LOL, yes, ma'am Deb! I have no intention of pushing The System at large. It's way too processing intensive. I estimate that I can fit a maximum of five to seven accounts on one server before it starts throwing off CRON errors. In just the last month, I have collected, analysed, and ranked 50,913 profiles. 281,113 tweets, 64,838 mentions, and 117,304 re-tweets, That all for just my account.

Yes, Fede mentioned that. I tried manually adding HTML tags for breaks "< " "/" "br" ">" but they just disappear. I'm not even sure this exploded version will stick around.

No surprise you got heavy engagement, Deb. The System is a Mini-Big-Data implementation coupled with Influencer Marketing concepts. Does that make sense? I grab data (RT, Tweets, Mentions) from selected influencer accounts. I collect what they do and what their followers do in response to all of it. It gets weighed and analysed and a follow limit is calculated. The most active accounts are then set for following. Since I follow based on most active accounts in a specific focus, engagement is much higher.

Hey Deb, Thanks for the Tweet. Since you are at 235 followers, you should probably switch to another. For a while, I was mentioning @deb_helfrich until I noticed the last post date. At first, I just thought you weren't into Twitter. You are now known by enough people under your own name. If they go there, they just think (like I did) you are inactive on Twitter.

Good to know, . At this rate, you'll be the winner of 3 months on The System. It's BadAss to the tenth power. That should bring you up to at least 2000 - 3000 followers plus.
