    Job Description

    About the role:

    Reporting directly to the Senior Director, Worldwide FP&A, this position is a hands-on role that will focus on the management and statutory accounting for the Canada practice, as well as supporting local partners/managers in driving the practice's profitability.

    The Finance Manager will manage teams' and overall practice budgets, forecasts and actual results. Perform routine treasury functions; support year-end audits and statutory tax audits (as needed), and ad hoc projects and global reporting. Working knowledge of international accounting standards as well as experience interacting with office leadership and global financial personnel. Full compliance with local client trust regulations, direct, and indirect taxes (GST, PST, QST, HST) is a requirement.

    How will you make a difference as a Finance Manager at Fragomen?

  • Lead development of team and practice budgets and monthly forecasts; lead presentation of financial budgets and regular practice reviews to firm leadership.
  • Support local management in driving team and practice profitability.
  • Hands-on management of accounting activities including, but not limited to GL, AP, AR, and payroll activities; collaborating with local HR manager to ensure accuracy of personnel coding in the firm's HRM system (Workday) and the general ledger via ADP.
  • Manage monthly close process and related management reporting.
  • Ensure timely submission of provincial tax returns and guidance for proper application of indirect taxes on client billing. Support tax audits as they arise.
  • Manage client trust accounting and support law society audits, when applicable.
  • Perform routine management to statutory book reconciliations.
  • Manage annual Notice to Reader report process and federal tax return filing.
  • Research unapplied cash receipts, including reaching out to clients' finance teams, as required.

  • Completion of university/college degree in Accounting required
  • CPA or other comparable accounting qualification preferred
  • Strong computer skills including MS suite (e.g., Advanced Excel, PowerPoint) and ERP systems.
  • 7+ years of progressive financial and management accounting experience preferably in a large, multinational, professional services environment or public accounting
  • Experience communicating with key stakeholders and business leaders
  • Experience with Canadian provincial and federal taxes (GST, PST, QST, HST)
  • Must have international accounting, foreign currency transaction experience
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent collaborative team player with ability to build relationships and complete tasks.
  • Ability to demonstrate self-motivation and ownership of assigned work.
  • Ability to interact with legal and administrative personnel in domestic and foreign offices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to keep partners, managers, and supervisor abreast of all issues
