    Description

    Effective January 1st, 2024 the salary range for this position is $1,852.71 to $2,314.51 per week ($96, $120,767.82 per year) in compliance with OPSEU Unified Bargaining Unit collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to January 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

    About Us:
    The Children, Youth and Social Services I&IT Cluster (CYSSC) works with Ministry divisions to provide advice and expertise on information technology solutions and services that advance the digital agenda. The CYSSC maintains and operates information technology solutions that support the business and mandate of the Ministry and works closely with partners in the IT enterprise to deliver on key ministry priorities, while aligning with the overall technology direction of the OPS.

    What can I expect to do in this role?

    As the Lead Developer, you will:

    • Provide technical expertise to our team of software developers by leading the design of our solutions

    • Work alongside architects to design and implement scalable and sustainable software solutions

    • Contribute to hands-on development of product features in alignment with the product strategy using modern technologies

    • Mentor and coach software developers to ensure technical excellence

    • Participate in the recruitment and hiring of new software developers

    How do I qualify?

    Technical Knowledge

  • Web Application Development– Demonstrated proficiency developing web-based applications using technologies such as Java Scripts/Angular/React, Java, Spring Boot, , Apache Kafka, real-time and batch processing.
  • Microservices – Experience with modular service, API development and Containerization using technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
  • Cloud Technologies – Experience developing Cloud native applications and understanding the benefits and/or constraints of Cloud technologies as it applies to different scenarios.
  • DevOps Practices – You have familiarity with DevOps culture and leveraging DevOps tools such as GitLab, Docker, Jenkins, Azure DevOps, etc.
  • Staying Current – Ability to research emerging technologies, pilot potential application of the technologies, and challenge the status quo.

    Leadership

  • Problem-Solving– Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Product-minded Focus – You have knowledge of the product, are open to feedback, and provide product/development tradeoffs, always with the customer in mind.
  • Mentoring and Coaching – Experience guiding the work of team members and upskilling the team, and encouraging team members to push technology boundaries.
  • Application Lifecycle Management – You demonstrate an innate desire to simplify technology solutions for effective and efficient application lifecycle management and promote the use of common component for reuse.

    Communication

  • Team Work– A strong commitment to service excellence, teamwork and collaboration.
  • Stakeholder Management – Experience collaborating with a Product Manager, balancing feature delivery with the time-to-market that provides value.
  • Communication Skills – Participate in team discussions, make solution recommendations, and document work.
  • Relationship Building – You are cognizant of your audience. You build partnerships and trust with the business and stakeholders.

    Project Management Skills

  • Project Management– Proven project management skills and in-depth knowledge of task estimation, scheduling, and budgets.
  • Product Delivery – You have knowledge of agile product delivery and the Scrum framework.
  • Service Excellence – You have an ability to achieve high quality deliverables through establishment of quality standards, ensuring projects are well managed, and delivered on-time standards.
