    The School of Health and Public Safety at SAIT prepares students for a dynamic career in the health care sector. We offer specialized training in diagnostic and therapeutic technologies, professional assistant programs, information management, and training for wellness professionals. Our programs are hands on, with students and instructors immersed in living classrooms and simulated training.
    The Opportunity
    Research and Simulation Operational Lead, under the associate dean's direction, will lead the School of Health and Public Safety and faculty by advancing school priorities around research and simulation. The role will also be a key support for faculty to develop simulation, integrate patient partnerships and interprofessional education within program curricula. The role will be responsible for coordinating patient partner education and other training for faculty in support of this goal. The lead will also work collaboratively with faculty to carry out research initiatives aligned to School priorities and of interest to the faculty.

    The Role

    • Simulation Coordination - 35%
    • Coach and support faculty to deliver best practice simulation methodology and assessment to maximize student learning
    • Lead and coordinate the School's initiatives around advancing simulation and training as teams
    • Collaborate with faculty to review data around simulations to enable continuous quality improvement
    • Support the faculty with the adoption, use, and evaluation of new teaching methodologies and technologies within the School (e.g. Virtual simulations, Hyflex learning, AR/VR, etc
    • Facilitate development of extended reality (XR) simulations, incorporating best practices in simulation with new technology
    • Maximize use of simulation spaces within the school
    • Support integration of training as teams (IPE, patient partners) through simulation
    • Support curriculum around simulation, including pre-briefs, debriefs, standardized tools, repository of simulation cases and artefacts, and patient partner case studies
    • Collaborate with the Quality and Strategic Initiatives Supervisor to implement strategic initiatives across the school

    • Research Coordination - 45%
    • Lead and participate in research related to health education and the scholarship of teaching and learning
    • Act as contact/liaison for research opportunities in the School
    • Identify, analyze and assess funding opportunities for revenue and success potential
    • Coordinate day-to-day research activities
    • Maintain comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of funding opportunities and requirements and be able to match opportunities to faculty's strengths and areas of expertise
    • Assist and advise researchers and/or research teams in the preparation and submission of research proposals and various funding applications
    • Assist and advise researchers and/or research teams in navigating internal application processes and policies. (e.g. REB)
    • Liaise with potential partners; participate in meetings among Research Teams and with potential partners to develop joint grant applications and research partnerships
    • Ensure the school is adhering to all policy and procedures around research, including data storage and security.
    • Review and interpret feedback regarding unsuccessful grants with researchers to assist in strengthening future funding applications
    • Prepare Communications on funding decisions for researchers, Dean, finance, Communications personnel, and other appropriate departments
    • Maintain appropriate grants data and records
    • Review and track grant and funding awards; advise Research teams of upcoming reporting requirements, facilitate progress and final report submission, ensuring completion and appropriate documentation included
    • Work closely with Finance for financial reporting; ensuring eligibility is met according to the terms of the relevant funding agreement and budgets
    • Create and maintain a research community of practice within HPS and liaise between leadership teams and the COP around opportunities and successes
    • Provide direction and supervision to research assistants

    • Patient Partner Consultant - 20%
    • Support faculty in their development of patient partnerships in their programs
    • Develop and maintain patient partnership database
    • Liaise with programs, faculty and patient partners in all steps of the engagement process
    • Work with faculty and programs to coordinate the engagement of patient partners
    • Effectively communicate to influence, resolve conflict and provide feedback regularly to faculty and patient partners.
    • Demonstrate a commitment to patient and family centered care principles and practices in the educational facility.
    • Patient partnership planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and reporting at all engagement levels throughout the School
    • Use evidenced-based approaches to successful patient engagement
    • Facilitate training/education of faculty on patient partnership tools and resources

    Qualifications & Experience

    • Minimum
    • Master's degree in healthcare field or education.
    • 5+ years in educational institution
    • Minimum 2 years of experience with research and simulation
    • A combination of education and experience may be considered
    • Working knowledge of adult learning pedagogy and curriculum development principles
    • Works collaboratively, demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills and ability to influence and compromise
    • Strong critical thinking and decision-making abilities to make timely and evidence-informed decisions and judgments
    • Influences in multiple directions to successfully make improvements and break down barriers
    • Strong communication ability: written, digital and verbal
    • Computer skills in MS Office Suite of applications
    • Behaves ethically and respectfully
    • Models equitable and inclusive behaviours and mindsets

    • Preferred
    • Diploma in allied health or related healthcare field
    • Preference will be given to applicants with experience in leading/teaching or curriculum design at a post-secondary level.
    • Project management
    • Experience in planning and running simulations
    • Strong leadership, coaching and mentorship abilities and comfortable in a union environment
    • Simulation Certificate/Courses
