    Type: Temporary (up to 8 weeks), Full-time (35 hours per week)

    Location: Remote (Must reside in one of the Provinces: ON, BC, SK, NS)

    About this Opportunity

    Canadian Feed the Children ("CFTC") has a Canada Summer Jobs opening from July 8, 2024, to August 31, 2024 for Finance Administrative Assistant. As a Summer Finance Administrative Assistant, your main goal is to improve financial operations by streamlining processes and enhancing transparency. You'll work closely with the team to document procedures clearly, using tools like flowcharts and written instructions. You'll also analyze current processes to find areas for improvement, suggesting practical solutions such as automation or better approval systems. Your role includes implementing these changes, training team members, and continuously evaluating their effectiveness. Ultimately, you'll help create a more organized, efficient, and transparent financial environment.

    This position is made possible largely due to the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) grant, an initiative of the Summer Work Experience program. One of the priorities of the program is to support employers who intend to hire youth in underrepresented groups. Preference for this position will be given to an applicant who self-identifies as being part of an underrepresented group:

    • Indigenous youth
    • Visible minorities/ racialized youth
    • Newcomer/refugee youth

    To be eligible, a participant must:

    • Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
    • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and;
    • Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

    Responsibilities:

    • Support the documentation of financial processes to ensure accuracy and clarity within the designated timeframe.
    • Assist in conducting audits of internal controls, identifying gaps or discrepancies and proposing solutions.
    • Collaborate with the team to define roles and responsibilities within financial processes and document them for clarity.
    • Provide support to the team managing multiple projects and assist in tasks aimed at improving efficiency and transparency.
    • Participate in the analysis of financial processes to identify opportunities for streamlining.
    • Support the implementation of process improvements as directed.
    • Assist in gathering financial data and conducting analyses.
    • Contribute to creating reports and presentations summarizing key findings.
    • Actively engage in learning opportunities provided during the internship and seek feedback for continuous improvement.

    Qualifications:

    • Recent graduate or current student pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
    • Knowledge of basic accounting principles i.e. journal entries, general ledger, accounts reconciliations etc.
    • Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills with a strong ability to work independently and effectively with internal and external stakeholders, in a variety of situations, exercising discretion and good judgement with confidential information.
    • Ability to analyze financial data and identify areas for improvement or inefficiency
    • Strong willingness to learn and contribute in a professional environment.
    • Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy, ability to manage conflicting priorities.
    • Good communication skills and ability to work well in a team.
    • Must be able to work effectively from home, with access to internet and phone.
    • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
