    Role Responsibilities

    Join our dynamic team as an Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Supervisor for the Springbank Dry Dam and Reservoir (SR1) project - a complex $800 million water management project designed to protect the City of Calgary and other downstream stakeholders from major flood events.

    This position offers a unique opportunity to be a part of a specialized technical team responsible for providing technical support for activities related to construction, and the on-going safe and efficient operation, maintenance, and surveillance of SR1, and other Provincially owned water management infrastructure projects throughout the Bow River Basin, ensuring operational readiness at all times.

    As the O&M Supervisor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Supervising O&M technologist(s) and contractors to inspect and maintain all mechanical, electrical, and civil components, ensuring minimal downtime and adherence to safety regulations.
  • Assisting with annual updates and maintenance of the project's operation, maintenance and surveillance manual.
  • Developing and implementing preventative maintenance programs.
  • Identifying repair or maintenance requirements and procure the resources to effect repairs.
  • Providing input for annual and long-term project budgets.
  • Participate in maintenance activities on other Provincially owned water management projects within the Bow River basin.
  • Managing flood operations and emergency management protocols during high-stress situations, optimizing water management objectives to protect downstream communities.
  • Completing annual, semi-annual and weekly operational tests on critical operating equipment as required to ensure operational readiness.
  • Participating in the implementation and maintenance of the SR1 flood action plan.
  • Participating in the execution of environmental monitoring programs as required.
  • Assisting with the development, maintenance and implementation of the project's emergency management plans and site OH&S plans.
  • Participating in annual emergency management exercises.
  • Coordinating with internal teams, government agencies, and local communities to foster strong relationships and ensure cohesive operation and maintenance strategies.
  • Liaising with stakeholders through out the basin including the City of Calgary as required.
  • Participating in ensuring all dam safety requirements for an extreme consequence dam are met, per Canadian Dam Association Dam Safety Guidelines and the Alberta Dam and Canal Safety Directive.
  • Participating in annual dam safety performance reviews and 5-year independent dam safety inspections.
  • Participating in ensuring that all construction activities adhere to safety standards, department guidelines, and contractual specifications.
  • Developing scopes of work for maintenance activities as assigned.
  • Tracking budgets and verifying completion of works as per contracts, and resolve contractual deficiencies.
  • This role is ideal for someone who has a broad technical skillset that thrives in managing high-consequence environments and is committed to enhancing community safety through meticulous oversight and proactive management.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirement for this Role:

  • A diploma in Engineering, preferably with a focus on Civil Engineering,
  • plus six years of related experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Preference will be given to Candidates who have:

  • Six or more years of experience in the operation and maintenance of civil infrastructure, preferably related to water management.
  • Proficiency with mechanical components, SCADA systems, and programmable logic controllers is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively under stress, including on-call and standby duties as required.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to manage both personnel and complex projects.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the capacity to make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Relevant certifications in project management, safety, or related fields.
