    Primary Objectives:

    Reporting to the Manager-Technical Accounting, the Senior Accountant plays a pivotal role in providing expertise in areas of financial reporting under US GAAP, IFRS, regulatory compliance, and support for periodic regulatory filings. This role will be well-suited to a business-minded, dynamic CPA holder with strong experience in the insurance industry, and specific experience with IFRS 17 and other regulatory requirements.

    Job Responsibilities:

  • Financial analysis, reconciliation, and quality control, including:Reviewing quarterly IFRS data package and reconciliation to policy management system data and US GAAP results
  • Financial Reporting, including:Preparation of quarterly and annual reports for parent companies and local regulatory, ensuring consistency across reporting standardsKey materials for quarterly Board of Directors meetings
  • Collaboration with internal teams:Regulatory Reporting - provision of IFRS results for OSFI filingsCollaboration with Canadian, US and European affiliates for internal reportingExternal Audit support, including preparation of key IFRS / GAAP schedules for annual audited financial statements
  • Other support, including:Support for planning and implementing changes in Accounting and regulatory standardsResearching/analyzing the accounting impact of new transactions or business initiatives, including technical accounting papersCoaching, mentoring and development of team members on technical matters

    • Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Accounting or equivalent from an accredited university
  • Recognized accounting designation, preferably Chartered Professional Accountant
  • 5-10 years of progressive accounting experience in the insurance industry, preferably in property & casualty
  • Thorough understanding of US GAAP and IFRS, especially IFRS 17
  • Experience with Infor Sun Financial Systems, SAP, and Power BI, would be considered an asset
  • Strong analytical and accounting skills
  • Excellent verbal, and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment
