The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Institute of Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis (IMHA), headquartered at the University of British Columbia, is one of thirteen virtual institutes of CIHR. CIHR-IMHA's mandate is to support ethical and impactful research to enhance active living, mobility and oral health, and to address the wide range of conditions related to bones, joints, muscles, connective tissue, skin and teeth. Musculoskeletal health is critical for promoting the physical activity needed to maintain mobility, productivity and general health and well-being. Prevalent MSK disorders such as arthritis and osteoporosis can limit mobility and physical activity, creating a vicious cycle of inactivity, degeneration and loss of productivity. Similarly, poor oral health and skin conditions can affect overall health and well-being.

In cooperation with the Scientific Director (SD), Associate Scientific Director (ASD) and Institute staff, the Analyst, Projects and Initiatives will be responsible for supporting the respective initiative lead in the development and execution of work plans and deliverables. The Analyst, Projects and Initiatives works on a day-to-day basis with IMHA team members and regularly collaborates and/or interacts with other CIHR staff, researchers, as well as Institute Advisory Board and committee members.

    ORGANIZATIONAL STATUS

The Analyst, Projects and Initiatives reports directly to the Associate Scientific Director (ASD) and works collaboratively as a key member of the Institute team that also includes the Scientific Director (SD), Administrator – Institute Operations, Project Manager, and Projects and Events Officer, as well as other CIHR staff in the CIHR national office located in Ottawa.

  • Conducting literature reviews and environmental scans to develop summary reports in support of institute initiatives
  • Developing reports, analyses, briefings, and presentations, to ensure effective strategic development, planning and implementation of projects/initiatives and appropriate representation of CIHR-IMHA
  • Managing and updating Institute records including, but not limited to: funding data, asset maps, stakeholder and reviewer lists
  • Participating in weekly operational meetings and contributing to the development of key initiatives the Institute leads or partners in, including: digital health, pain, musculoskeletal and open science
  • Supporting the Associate Scientific Director in writing concept papers and business cases to support the implementation of strategic research priorities and the development of funding opportunities
  • Compiling tables, charts, graphs and summarized statistics for integration in research papers or reports
  • Supporting the Associate Scientific Director in conducting Relevance Review/Project validation exercises as needed
  • Community-strengthening activities, including the coordination and outreach in the planning and execution of webinars with communities that fall within IMHA's areas of focus
  • Assisting with compilation or creation of resources that add value to the research communities, including: learning modules, blogs, articles, and reports
  • Performing other related duties as required
  • CONSEQUENCE OF ERROR

Inappropriate decisions could damage the reputation of the Institute, CIHR central and the University of British Columbia as host institution of IMHA, adversely affecting the ability of the Institute to fulfill its mandate.
