    Description

    ERCO Worldwide has operated for over 100 years, focused largely on the production and supply of in-organic products along with technology for the production of chlorine dioxide. Today, ERCO's major business areas include sodium chlorate, chlor-alkali products, sodium chlorite, and chlorine dioxide technology.

    The ERCO business serves a number of key customer segments including pulp and paper, food, energy, agriculture, water treatment, airport de-icing, fertilizers and specialty chemicals.

    Co-op Laboratory Technician

    ERCO Worldwide North Vancouver has an opening for a Laboratory Technician starting Fall semester September 2024.

    Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Quality control analysis of final product and in-process liquors, following company procedures and safety protocols.
  • Calibration and maintenance of analytical test equipment.
  • Routine sampling and analysis of cooling water and addition of treatment chemicals.
  • Analysis of outflow samples for discharge permit.
  • Preparation of various reagents for lab and operators test stations.
  • Sample collection for external testing.
  • Provide support for the Laboratory Supervisor and Technical Manager as required.
  • Occasional barge loading sampling and analysis.
  • Test results data entry and creation of Certificates of Analysis when needed.

    • The Laboratory Technician will test and analyze samples using a variety of methods:

  • Ion chromatography
  • Auto and manual titrations
  • Spectrophotometry
  • pH / Conductivity / ORP
  • Alkalinity
  • Insolubles
  • Density
  • Hardness

    • Education Required:

  • 3rd or 4th year Chemistry

    • Experienced preferred:

  • Previous work in an industrial laboratory is advantageous.

    • Other requirements:

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Attention to detail and work safety.
  • Tidy, clean, organized and able to multi-task efficiently.
  • Proactiveness and good communication.
  • Reliable mode of transportation for daily commute to North Vancouver Plant

    • Reporting to:

  • Laboratory Supervisor, Quality | Responsible Care Coordinator

    • Screening process?

  • Drug & alcohol testing will be conducted.
  • Background check.

    • Wage $26 per hour

    Term 8 months

    Work hours 7am to 3pm

    Location North Vancouver

    Start date September 02, 2024 – Last weeks of August needed for overlap

    training, preferably two weeks starting on August 19, 2024.
