As the guest experience becomes increasingly digital, RBI is innovating its products to deliver enhanced consumer experiences.

    RBI's Global Privacy Program: As RBI's Global Privacy Program evolves to address regulatory changes, ethics concerning data, and emerging business models, the need for a Legal Director, Privacy & Data Protection based in Toronto becomes apparent. Reporting to the Global VP, Privacy Officer, this role focuses on leading RBI's Global Privacy Program in Canada and managing legal and compliance issues related to privacy, security, and data protection within the country.

    Primary Responsibilities - What You'll Do:

    • Lead the development and implementation of RBI's Global Privacy & Data Protection Program in Canada
    • Design, propose, and implement privacy processes, protocols, and controls
    • Oversee legal and regulatory compliance for privacy, security, and data matters
    • Provide legal advice and day-to-day support on privacy, security, and data-related issues
    • Educate the business team on privacy and data governance matters
    • Lead responses to regulatory inquiries and incidents/breaches
    • Ensure commercial relationships adhere to applicable laws and internal policies

    What You'll Bring:

    • Membership in a provincial or territorial law society and 10/15 years of post-bar admission experience
    • Significant experience in privacy, data protection, and compliance
    • Extensive knowledge of global data privacy laws, particularly in Canada, the Canadian provinces, the U.S., and the EU
    • Ability to manage complex agreements and client relationships adeptly
    • Skills in negotiation, project management, and balancing legal and business considerations
    • Exceptional communication and decision-making abilities

    Nice-to-Haves:

    • Bilingual capabilities in French/English
    • Privacy or cybersecurity credentials (CIPP/E, CIPP/US, ISACA...)
    • International business and work experience
