Product Design Lead, Design System - Toronto, Canada - Wayfair

    Wayfair
    Default job background
    Description

Candidates for this position may be based in Boston or Toronto, and will be expected to comply with their team's hybrid work schedule requirements.

We're the Global Supplier Technology (GST) Experience Design team at Wayfair, and we're tackling exciting problems that are reshaping how suppliers manage their business with us. We're a diverse, multidisciplinary team of world-class designers who are hard at work transforming the supplier experience of managing their products, orders, inventory, finances, and other aspects of their business with Wayfair. Our design practice is collaborative, data-driven, and fast-paced.

The Experience Platform team sits under our Experience Horizontals pod, whose goal is to shift Partner Home—the digital experience for our suppliers—from a web portal of disparate tools to a cohesive enterprise application. Our team maintains the Partner Home pattern library that provides code and design assets that are the building blocks of digital experiences across the Wayfair supplier space.

How can we enable our suppliers to more efficiently understand the status of their products or inventory, such as when an item is offsite or out of stock? How do we simplify the display of dense information and complex workflows for our suppliers? If you're interested in answering these types of questions, you'll love our innovative and dynamic team

    What You'll Do

As an experienced Product Design Lead, you'll bring a high level of systems thinking, strategy, and craftsmanship to the design details that bring the design language to life. You're outstanding at identifying common design patterns and adept at implementing these patterns into our Partner Home pattern library, leveraging best practices and best-in-class competitive examples when appropriate.

A strong candidate will relish the opportunity to jump into a highly visible workstream that drives significant impact. You assist in critical thinking, planning and can anticipate future needs. You uphold consistency but are flexible and open to accommodate change. You are an empathetic designer who drives results, and cross-functional collaboration is second nature to you. You'll partner with other product designers, content designers, and engineers across the supplier organization.

The Experience Platform Product Design Lead will support design and user experience efforts through the following responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain system-level web components, patterns, and documentation for the Partner Home pattern library in Figma for our supplier-facing designers to utilize and reference.
  • Layout & Templates
  • Grids & Spacing
  • Navigation
  • Color
  • Typography
  • Iconography
  • Accessibility
  • Document design specifications and usage guidelines that can be leveraged by designers and engineers.
  • Collaborate with product managers, developers, content designers, user researchers, and other designers to deliver quality, cohesive, inclusive designs that scale across a variety of different supplier workflows.
  • Influence and contribute to the Experience Platform roadmap and product backlog to evolve the pattern library.
  • Support engagement programs and contribution efforts to nurture the growth and culture of the Partner Home Tech Transformation initiative at Wayfair.
  • Drive a sense of urgency in the team to deliver work, emphasizing the use of lean tools and techniques to more rapidly deliver work.
  • What You'll Need

  • 5+ years of experience building and contributing to design systems at enterprise organizations—a big plus for experience in e-commerce.
  • Portfolio with case studies illustrating comparable work related to design systems at mid/large-scale organizations. Examples of product design specifically for desktop web applications is a must.
  • Portfolio demonstrating a mastery of interaction and visual design principles.
  • Mastery of Figma as a design tool; considers yourself to be a Figma expert.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, collaborative, and creative problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills with an ability to thrive in ambiguity.
  • Strong understanding of design processes, the implications for responsive design, and accessibility guidelines.
  • Understands and demonstrates systematic design thinking. Must demonstrate ability to design solutions that solve problems at multiple levels of scale (simple and complex scenarios, edge cases.)
  • Ability to create timelines and manage your own work independently.
  • Experience balancing multiple projects and timelines.
