    School for the Arts; Full-Time Tenure Track Faculty Position/Director

    Applications are invited for a full-time, tenure-track position in the School for the Arts housed in the University of Saskatchewan's College of Arts and Science at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with an expected start date of July 1, 2024. Following appointment, the successful candidate will serve as Director of the School for a five-year term and will be an in-scope member of the .

    As the inaugural Director, the successful candidate will lead the newly-formed School for the Arts, which includes the disciplines of Art, Art History, Drama, and Music. They will provide dynamic leadership and vision as they work with faculty to determine priorities and initiatives for the new School while maintaining the strengths of the existing programs. The Director will be the academic and operational leader, and they will be responsible for providing mentorship for faculty through collegial processes, assignment of duties, budgeting, staff supervision, and oversight of performance spaces and facilities. They will work with the Undergraduate and Graduate Chairs of the School for the Arts to develop and administer its programs and will be a member of the College of Arts and Science Committee of Department Heads. The Director will represent and advocate for the School for the Arts on-campus and to the broader community to raise the profile of the School for the Arts and its programs, and work with the Advancement Office to attract new funding sources.

    As a faculty member in the School for the Arts, the successful candidate will maintain an active program of research, scholarly, and artistic work (RSAW), including applying for external funding; teaching in their area(s) of expertise; supervising and serving on student committees; and, undertaking administrative activities. There will be a reduction in these duties while serving as Director.

    The University of Saskatchewan's main campus is situated on Treaty 6 Territory and the Homeland of the Métis. It is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, a city with a diverse and thriving economic base, a vibrant arts community, including the Remai Modern, Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, Persephone Theatre, Wanuskewin Heritage Park, Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Jazz Festival, AKA and PAVED artist-run centers, and many other community arts organizations. The University has a reputation for excellence in teaching, research and scholarly activities and offers a full range of undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs to a student population of over 27,000.

    The College of Arts and Science offers a dynamic combination of programs in the humanities and fine arts, social sciences, and natural sciences. There are approximately 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students in the College and 300 faculty, including 9 Canada Research Chairs.

    With a present complement of 24 full-time faculty members including the David L Kaplan Chair in Music, over 50 sessional instructors, 3 technicians, and 3 administrative staff, the School for the Arts offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate degrees and certificates in Art History, Drama, Music, Music Education, Studio Art and the wîcêhtowin Theatre Program, one of only two Indigenous theatre programs in the lands we now know as Canada. The School's Art and Art History, Drama, and Music areas collectively have a well-established, internationally recognized record of strong leadership in many areas including traditional academic scholarship, artistic practice and community engagement.     Qualifications:

    The ideal candidate will demonstrate success in fostering innovative solutions to academic and administrative challenges, and embrace the mission and core values of the University of Saskatchewan, including a commitment to Indigenization. Candidates must have a terminal degree in a field that is relevant to the School for the Arts and demonstrate experience and leadership in university administration. Candidates with comparable administrative experience will be considered. Strong communication skills are required. The candidate will need to demonstrate a vibrant record of research, scholarly and/or artistic work and interdisciplinary experience would be a benefit. A strong understanding of the Arts and Arts Education is expected, as well as post-secondary teaching experience. Experience with community outreach and engagement and/or philanthropy would be a benefit.

    The salary band for the academic year for this position is Associate Professor $120,099-$140,253/Full Professor $140,253-$163,766. As Director the position is also eligible for an administrative stipend and additional support funds.
