Description
Applications are invited to the positions of Board Directors and Community Members at William Osler Health System (Osler), a hospital system which includes Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital, and Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness. Serving 1.3 million residents of Brampton, Etobicoke and surrounding communities within the Central region and nationally recognized for its commitment to patient safety, Osler is Accredited with Exemplary Standing, the highest rating a Canadian hospital can receive. Osler will also play a critical role in the development of Ontario's next net-new Medical School, in partnership with Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), and as part of its transition to an Academic Health Centre. With an annual budget of $950 million, Osler offers a wide range of health services, with high quality care provided by skilled, professional, multidisciplinary teams. The hospital is frequently named one of Greater Toronto's Top Employers and is recognized as one of Canada's Best Diversity Employers.
Osler's dedicated leadership is guided by a volunteer Board of Directors, a group of 17 committed members (12 elected members and 5 ex-officio members) as well as 4 community members who participate at the Board Committee level, and whose governance oversight is focused on the success and constant innovation of the organization. As the hospital is evolving and expanding, the Board must match the growth of the organization by adding additional directors and planning for future vacancies when terms have expired. As a member of the Board, and in contributing to the collective achievement of the role of the Board, the Director acts in good faith and in the best interests of the Hospital and, in so doing, supports Osler in fulfilling its mission and discharging its accountabilities. The respective Board Directors will be seasoned, having demonstrated strong contribution at the board room table in complex organizations, and will establish a healthy, innovative, and dynamic board culture for Osler. Community Members participate at the Board Committee level and are engaged, and passionate individuals committed to improving healthcare outcomes in the community. They demonstrate strong analytical and communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with committee members and the Board of Directors. As a community representative, they advocate for the diverse needs and perspectives of local residents, ensuring that committee recommendations align with the highest standards of patient care, fiscal responsibility, and organizational integrity.
To meet respective key competencies required on the Board, the ideal Directors and Community Members actively contributes skills and expertise in the areas of government relations / public relations, fundraising, capital redevelopment, and clinical research or education, coupled with governance expertise and personal characteristics reflecting the communities that Osler serves. Ideal candidates would be current or former Peel, North Etobicoke, Bolton, Caledon or Malton residents or those whose lived experience reflects the community and who are deeply committed to the broader healthcare community; and most importantly are keenly interested in quality and accessible patient care and healthcare provision facilitated through digital transformation.
Your community thanks you for considering this role.
Joining William Osler now is a chance to immerse yourself in a culturally diverse, collaborative, and innovative environment. You will play a key role building out a healthcare program that addresses the needs of people from all over the world and all levels of income, experiencing minor and life-threatening injuries and diseases. As a major hospital system, we are home to some of the biggest specialty and emergency departments in the country and you will broaden your expertise, increase your knowledge and your own adaptability, and gain endless opportunities for growth.
Come live our values – Respect, Excellence, Innovation, Service, Compassion and Collaboration – with us.
While we thank all applicants, only those selected for an interview will be contacted. Any information obtained during the course of recruitment will be used for employment recruitment purposes only, and not for any other purpose.
