    Job Summary

    We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Manager of Privacy and Risk to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing privacy policies and risk management strategies to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and protect patient confidentiality and sensitive information.

    The Manager will work closely with the Director of the Department, hospital leaders, directors, managers, staff, and external vendors (BLG, HIROC, etc).

    The Manager will lead the development and implementation of policies and programs to identify, prioritize and manage risks at an early stage, and will advise the Director on appropriate risk mitigation.

    The Manager will provide leadership in the areas of privacy, risk management, policy management, medical-legal processes and procedures at Southlake in order to promote and enhance patient and staff safety and protect the hospitals reputation and assets.

    The Manager will oversee:

    •The Integrated Risk Management (IRM) framework and process,

    •The Privacy Program and Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, responsibilities and act as a liaison to the Chief Privacy Officer,

    •Ensuring the organization has support for both privacy and risk consultations for new and existing programs,

    •Managing medical-legal claims process.

    Primary Responsibilities

    Privacy Compliance:

    •Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive privacy policies and procedures in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices.

    •Conduct privacy training.

    •Ensure regular privacy audits are completed and appropriately investigated.

    •Serve as the primary point of contact for privacy-related inquiries and incidents, ensuring timely response and resolution.

    •Ensures regulatory reporting to the IPC is completed.

    •Oversee the investigation and management of privacy complaints/breaches working in collaboration with programs.

    Risk Management:

    •Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive risk management policies and procedures

    •Oversight for risk management, which includes the corporate risk register and claims management.

    •Ensure that the Integrated Risk Management Framework is refreshed and reviewed annually.

    •Provide support on various topics, including review of contracts from an insurance and indemnity focus working with HIROC.

    •Oversee the management and investigation related to medical-legal claims, including but not limited to:
    oEnsuring both potential and actual claims are reported to our insurer (HIROC) in a timely manner;
    oCoordinating service of claims to staff in a supportive and private manner;
    oProviding support to staff with appropriate information, guidance and support related to legal claims in which they are named;
    oEnsures an up-to-date database of all actual and potential legal claims are kept;
    oEnsures appropriate notifications are made to all staff, physicians, managers, directors, chiefs, executive leadership and the board (if necessary); and
    oActs as the primary hospital representative at examinations for discovery.

    •Work collaboratively with the hospital insurer (HIROC) and adjustors on insurance and risk management matters.

    •Ensure the annual completion of the Risk Assessment Checklist (RAC) and oversee the completion of that work.

    Qualifications


    •Undergraduate Degree is required

    •Master's Degree is an asset

    •Minimum five (5) years' experience in a healthcare organization, preferably acute care hospital with:
    oprivacy in a healthcare environment,
    orisk management activities and managing an IRM program,
    oclaims management,
    oknowledge with PHIPA, FIPPA, Hospital Act, Regulated Health Professions Act, and other legislation in a healthcare setting,
    omanaging a team ensuring appropriate allocation of resources to complete all aspects of privacy and risk management work,
    oproviding reports, briefing notes and presentations to senior leaders

    •Privacy Certification (CIPP/C) is an asset

    As a condition of employment, you are required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination to the Hospital's Occupational Health and Safety department. Successful candidates will be required to submit proof of COVID-19 vaccination (two doses) from the Ontario Ministry of Health website or other authorized source directly to the Occupational Health and Safety department.
