- Plan, organize and lead a group of children in a group setting
- Ensure that you are creating a safe and enjoyable environment for participants
- Create and facilitate fun, creative and inclusive activities for all participants
- Teach from beginning to intermediate levels using a variety of dance genres and approaches
- Prepare dance lesson plans and develop dance curriculums
- Ensure all equipment and supplies are in safe working condition
- Complete appropriate administrative tasks in a timely manner (i.e. attendances and head counts)
- Developing and planning programs that meet the interests of children between the ages of 8 to 16 years
- Encourage and motivate children to achieve their goals through engaging, encouraging, and motivating them.
- Teach choreographed routines and choose music for camp events and end of weekly sessions
- Teach all aspects of the dance curriculum, including techniques, theory, and performance, requiring both leadership and vision
- Ensuring programs are safe, age/developmentally-appropriate, non-competitive, inclusive, innovative and skilled-based in nature.
- Help to ensure the safety and security of the members and assist in responding to critical incidents as outlined in the Club's policies and procedures
- Participate in staff training and orientation sessions
- Ensuring the safety and supervision of participants at all times by strictly following guidelines and procedures (i.e. head counts)
- Dealing with conflicts and behavior management immediately using corrective techniques, as discussed in training
- Report to, and takes direction from Supervisors
- Maintain professional relationships with peers, members, volunteers, parents and other Club members
- Attend regularly scheduled meetings
- Arrive no later than 15 minutes prior to scheduled shift.
- Degree in fine arts or similar (asset).
- Extensive dancing skill and experience (hip hop, afrobeats and/ or contemporary an asset).
- Passion for dance and working with other creatives.
- Strong interpretive and creative thinking skills.
- Excellent attention to detail, time management skills, and work ethic.
- Superb interpersonal, collaborative, and communication abilities.
- Must meet all "Canada Summer Jobs" requirements including:
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
- Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the
Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and - Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.
*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.

Description
BGC Weston-Mount Dennis & Lawrence Heights Clubs serves children and youth in the Lawrence Heights/Weston-Mount Dennis and surrounding communities providing social, physical, educational, creative, seasonal, and community support programs. Your role as a Dance Camp Instructor will be to provide a safe and supportive environment for the program participants. This program is designed for children and youth ages 8-16 years. Program components include dance education, recreation, social activities, sports, mentoring and the arts.
Location: BGC Youth Centre Portable (106 Emmett Ave)
