  • You will provide expert technical advice and leadership support to Delivery Teams, creating a culture of ownership, promoting roles and responsibilities.
  • The Construction Director (CM) will work closely with senior client directors to lead a construction management division within the client organization. The division will lead on construction oversight of over 50 live rail projects across the GTA.

    The construction director will drive a culture of health, safety and wellbeing excellence and lead transformation of best-practice construction delivery. They will be required to proactively engage with delivery directors and vice presidents to review work plans, and work with the teams to develop resolutions that are best for program.

    You'll be responsible for:

  • Providing strategic leadership and technical construction leadership across a multi-billion-dollar rail portfolio.
  • Developing the design and operating model of the construction management office to enable it to effectively oversee the program construction activities.
  • Ensuring that the construction-aspects of the program are technically sound, evidence-based, and consistent with client and stakeholders' priorities, requirements and expectations.
  • Providing oversight of all activities, outputs, and outcomes related to construction management and administration.
  • Providing a broad range of high quality and reliable construction expertise in a proactive manner, through advice, direction, and direct leadership with the project teams on the management of issues and considerations that are likely to influence definition and achievement of the program scope and objectives.
  • Organizing, directing and managing field representation at all major work sites and remote production facilities.
  • Identifying any opportunities to help develop the Project Delivery Teams's delivery experience, through coaching and mentoring of the on-site teams.
  • Helping to develop the constructors and PDT's approach to proactive health and safety.
  • Managing creation of a secure online daily field logs including photo documentation addressing daily progress, significant events and milestones, safety.
  • Supporting the development of mitigation and/or incentives to reduce risks associated with the utility and construction interfaces.
  • Supporting and developing the safety culture of the team and ensure core values are met.
  • Delivering results, striving to exceeds the clients' expectations.
  • You'll need to have:

  • Significant experience leading and providing direction to construction and project delivery teams on high-profile and high value projects.
  • Ability to lead, engage, motivate, and coach others.
  • Ability to act as a role model and inspire and empower others.
  • Competency to mentor and coach at levels within MCS and the wider organization.
  • Ability to lead negotiations with third parties.
  • Ability to create and deliver persuasive and engaging presentations to wide range of audiences in our industry.
  • Ability to lead and strategize collaboration models, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to manage client relationships effectively.
  • Ability to listen to others and to consider all views presented.

  • You'll also have:

  • Experience as construction director in the rail sector i.e., stations, track, bridges, overhead catenary systems, signalling and communications.
  • Experience leading large, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Detailed understanding of construction methodology, innovative methods of delivery, technology, planning, delivery, site logistics.
  • Commercial and detailed understanding of construction contract law and an understanding of multiple contract types.
  • Good oral, written communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to stay up to date with key industry/professional trends through networking and continued professional development (CPD) and ability to update colleagues and clients on industry trends.
  • Proficiency in office technology, software, and applications.
  • Well-developed decision-making skills
  • Ownership to identify, solve and overcome challenges, whilst keeping other abreast of developments.
