    PROJECT MANAGER (BAND LEVEL 9)

    (Marine Biomass Innovation (MBI) Project)

    OVERVIEW

    Reporting directly to the Co-Principal Investigators, the successful candidate will manage the Marine Biomass Innovation (MBI) project for 3 years. The project manager will play a key role in the day-to-day management and administration of the project as part of the central administration team. Specifically, the project manager will help ensure that the project meets its projected milestones in a timely manner, acting as liaison between all team leaders, management teams, industry contacts, Indigenous community liaisons, university administrators, academic collaborators, and government contacts. This research project is guided by Etuaptmumk (Two-Eyed Seeing), which speaks to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous worldviews that are empowered and prioritized throughout all stages of the project.

    DUTIES

    Overseeing the day-to-day management activities in a research support environment to streamline and facilitate integration of work packages and execution of the project; working closely with the co-PIs, team leads, and institutional finance officers to ensure all expenditures follow the policies and guidelines of funders and host university; compiling and submitting financial reports as required (working with the relevant university administrative units); monitoring partner contributions; analyzing short and long-term resource needs and recommending appropriate adjustment of staffing and resources; providing budgetary statements and overviews as required by the Co-PIs and taking part in and providing advice on project budget reviews; coordinating with HR, the Co-PIs, and team leads around advertising positions and the recruitment of postdocs, graduate students, and other positions as required; coordinating and organizing all project team meetings as well as recording/sharing meeting minutes; assisting the PIs and team in tracking WP progress in meeting stated timelines and objectives and preparing for mid-term review and final project reporting; liaising with Co-PIs, team leads, community partners, industry partners, and other stakeholders on projects including academics and government agencies; helping to coordinate and manage outreach and Knowledge Mobilization activities, including coordinating media inquiries, communications with the funding agency, as well as project partners and external organizations; designing and maintaining a project website, compiling newsletters, social media posts, and updating pages on social networking websites; attending and documenting key activities for dissemination via the web and social media; ensuring the understanding, promotion, and support of Etuaptmumk across all aspects of the project, with close working relationships with Indigenous and non-Indigenous team members, partners, stakeholders, and community groups; managing multi-site research ethics approvals; seeking grant opportunities to leverage successful funding and assist with follow up grant applications; working with CO PIs and Work package leads to develop a Research Centre to host the project; and performing other duties, related to the project, as required.

    The position requires workweek flexibility with occasional evenings and weekends required.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Experience (3-5 years) in project management, coordination, grant administration, and/or large grant budget management; minimum of a Master's degree in a relevant discipline; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Experience in conducting research (community-based marine innovation research in collaboration with Indigenous communities considered an asset), critical appraisal, knowledge translation, and program evaluation are required.Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including verbal and written communication, diplomacy, tact, and the ability to prioritize work are required. Skills in building and fostering relationships/partnerships within and between academics, industry, government, and community organizations; particularly in Indigenous contexts. The successful candidates will be open to learning new concepts and approaches to research, particularly in relation to meaningful collaboration with Indigenous peoples in research.As well, the successful candidate will be goal oriented and be able to work independently or in a team context.A good understanding of the state of the art in equity, diversity, and inclusion are essential for this position.

    SALARY $66,092 - $90,126 per annum (Management and Professional)
