    Newmont North America operations are located in British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec with roles in operations, projects, and exploration. Regional Support is provided from our office in Vancouver.

    Purpose


    Reporting to the Equity Mine Sr. Supervisor, the Environmental Technical Representative is responsible for environmental monitoring and reporting of the Equity site. To help ensure Equity complies with all regulations, that Equity maintains a proactive approach to all environmental concerns and maintains good relations with the regulating authorities and the public.

    Essential Duties

    • Assist with overall direction of site operations, environmental activities, and public relations.
    • Responsible for collecting and processing all permit and non-permit water samples (ground and surface water)
    • Verification of all water quality data and input into site database.
    • Monitoring all activities at the mine site that are potentially harmful to the environment and seeking and advising mine management on ways to improve them.
    • Complete operational lab scale tests in HDS treatment plant and assist with treatment plant operations.
    • Liaising with local community groups and stakeholders through meetings and site tours/presentations.
    • Complete reporting (monthly, annually) as required by the site permits
    • Maintain dataloggers, instrumentation and verify data of Tailings Facility monitoring system and waste rock stockpile cover system.
    • Rotational on call coverage for treatment plant and ARD Collection system (including weekend coverage).
    • Complete routine inspections on the tailings storage facility and water storage facility dams.

    Training & Experience


    General Profile

    • Performs routine assignments in the entry to a professional job progression related to the specific role required
    • Structured mindset that is aware of fundamental technical concepts and techniques associated with the work and uses existing procedures to deliver quality work.
    • Use existing procedures to solve routine problems with supervision

    Knowledge:

    • Requires fundamental knowledge of environmental/health/safety issues
    • Technical skills and ability to learn in areas related to hydrology, water management, geochemistry and other analytical engineering skills

    Problem Solving:

    • Use Existing procedures to recognize and communicate standard problems to higher level professionals.
    • Ability to analyze and solve problems

    Experience:

    • University degree or college diploma in environmental, earth sciences, biology, chemistry or a combination of education and relevant experience.
    • 0-3 years' experience

    Skills and Abilities:

    • Communications skills
    • Strong interpersonal skills to liaise with internal and external stakeholders
    • Knowledgeable in computer software (MS Office/Excel) and ability to use technical software programs
    • Capable of operating instrumentation & Technical/Scientific equipment
    • Equipment calibration
    • Exhibit strong time management, planning and organizational skills, and be highly self-motivated and self-organized
    • Strong report writing and numeracy skills.
    • Physical labour helping plant operations such as operating a handheld jack hammer, to remove gypsum for HDS plant reaction tanks
    • Asks questions and checks for understanding

    Ability to Successfully Complete Training:

    • General education and certifications needed for the role

    Requirement:

    • Valid state/city/country driver's license
    • Experience driving in adverse conditions (snow and ice)

    Working Conditions


    Job duties include working within an environment that presents regular exposure to potential electric shocks, moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and wet and humid environments. There is a potential to be exposed, occasionally, to extreme heat, cold, and slick working surfaces. Employees will periodically be working around radioactive materials.

    The expected salary range for this role is CAD $ $83,900 to $104,900 . This range is tied to the British Columbia market for jobs performed in British Columbia. The salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, training, and/or experience. The salary offer will not be based on a candidate's pay history at other jobs, and by law, Newmont will not seek information about pay history, and candidates should not share such information with Newmont.
