    Reporting to the Manager of Correctional Health Services, The Pharmacist applies safety and knowledge of effective drug therapy to provide health care workers and patients with accurate and current drug information. The Pharmacist oversees drug distribution systems (inpatient and outpatient) and provides direction to pharmacy support staff. Pharmacists' works on selected medical services, participates in medical rounds, and provides discharge medication calendars and counselling to patients and make therapeutic recommendations to the medical team. Pharmacists participates in scheduled pharmaceutical care rounds, provides in-services in and outside the department, and is responsible for the reporting of adverse drug reactions (ADR's) according to policy. May provide specialty services such as aminoglycoside and vancomycin dosing and participate in warfarin dosing in outpatient anticoagulation clinics.

    The Correctional Health Services Program has an interdisciplinary team and is responsible for the provision of primary care services, mental health and addictions services, and dental services, within the four adult provincial correctional facilities. The delivery of health services includes nursing assessments and interventions, diagnostic services, physician clinics, health promotion and prevention, emergency care, dental clinics, psychiatric and psychologist services, and special programs (e.g. Immunizations, Hep C, Opiate Agonist Therapy). The Pharmacist will be an integral member of the clinical team and contribute to medication reconciliation, patient counselling/support, discharge/transition planning, special programs, and provide recommendations to the medical team. The Pharmacist will participate in implementing quality improvement initiatives and be an active member of related committees.

    About You

    We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

    • Graduate from a recognized university program in Pharmacy
    • Completion of a Pharmacy Residency Program preferred
    • Licensed to practice Pharmacy in the Province of Nova Scotia
    • Minimum one year experience in a hospital pharmacy setting required
    • Strong knowledge of drugs and therapeutics
    • Effective oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to make accurate and timely recommendations regarding safe and cost-effective use of drugs
    • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
