    About Us

    The mission of the Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is to foster and enhance best practices in teaching and learning at Western University. To achieve its mission, the Centre utilizes an evidence-based approach to create and deliver programs that support the teaching and learning activities of faculty members, librarians and archivists, post-doctoral fellows, and graduate students.

    Responsibilities

    The Educational Developer (TA Programs) has a primary focus to create, facilitate, coordinate, and evaluate programs that enhance the teaching skills of graduate teaching assistants (TAs) across the university. The role contributes to the instructional development initiatives of the Centre for Teaching and Learning by designing and facilitating programs for new and experienced faculty across the disciplines. Drawing on a reflective and evidence-based approach, the Educational Developer (TA Programs) will provide expert consultation to TAs and faculty to enhance pedagogical practices. This role will support the Institutional Quality Assurance Process by facilitating programs and consultations related to departmental curriculum review and continuous curricular improvement.

    Qualifications

    Education:

    • Master's Degree in Education or another discipline
    • Certificate in University Teaching, Teaching Practicum, graduate-level course on teaching or equivalent
    • Ph.D. in Education, Adult Education, or related field is preferred

    Experience:

    • 2 years of teaching experience at the college or university level, preferably in a culturally diverse academic setting
    • 2 years of experience developing, facilitating, and coordinating workshops on teaching and learning for TAs or faculty
    • Experience coordinating events and managing projects
    • Experience conducting program evaluation and project management is preferred
    • Experience teaching online courses or facilitating online faculty/TA development workshops preferred
    • Experience in course design and continuous curriculum improvement preferred
    • Experience facilitating institutional curriculum renewal and review processes is preferred

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Knowledge of graduate student/TA development theories and their application
    • Demonstrated initiative and creativity in teaching and program development
    • Ability to effectively present information, and facilitate workshops for both small and large group settings
    • Ability to work independently and collaborate in a team environment to plan and deliver workshops, programs, and events.
    • Ability to take a reflexive approach to teaching by seeking and incorporating feedback for the purpose of program improvement
    • Ability to handle details with a high degree of accuracy and to organize and prioritize a high volume of work to meet deadlines
    • Exceptional oral and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
    • Ability to perform duties in a professional and courteous manner, while producing high quality work outcomes
    • Strong computer skills with the ability to creatively use and integrate technology to improve learning outcomes
    • Demonstrated knowledge of project management and the ability to manage multiple projects, people, and schedules in an academic setting
    • Openness to recognize when change is necessary, and to develop, implement and lead effective change management strategies
    • Knowledge of theory and principles of effective teaching and learning strategies, activities and assessments
    • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning in higher education
    • Knowledge of adult learning approaches
    • Knowledge of course design and continuous curriculum improvement principles
    • Ability to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships with the Faculties, the CTL's campus partners, and members of the CTL team
    • Ability to create organized work-plans for self and others that include clear, actionable steps and targeted deadlines
    • Ability to resolve conflicts constructively and adapt to changing priorities
