    We are seeking a mid- to senior-career professional to join our team and help build our practice around Indigenous engagement, working with and on behalf of Indigenous nations and in supporting other clients in developing and maintaining positive relationships built on trust and mutual respect.

    Hatfield's Human Environment Group is a tight-knit team of social scientists with a broad range of experience and interests in Indigenous cultures, interests and rights, resource use planning, and socio-economics. We support the incorporation of Indigenous perspectives and worldviews with western science-based practices, projects, and environmental management.

    The successful candidate will have strong communication and technical skills and a passion for learning. We are particularly interested in candidates who are strategic thinkers with a deep interest and/or experience in:
  • Indigenous interests, relationship building, and engagement;
  • Indigenous knowledge studies;
  • Land-use, natural resource and/or community planning;
  • Developing positive working relationships with Indigenous communities or Indigenous-led organizations; and
  • Regulatory aspects of Indigenous consultation and engagement

  • Responsibilities:
  • Work independently and with teams of Social and Environmental Specialists on a variety of projects, across multiple sectors with a broad range of clients;
  • Contribute to the planning, organization, and delivery of stakeholder and Indigenous engagement or consultation activities;
  • Build on your experience working with Indigenous communities to enhance and deliver a variety of Hatfield's social and environmental technical services;
  • Take initiative to identify engagement opportunities and provide strategies to identify and engage in successful relationships;
  • Support the respectful incorporation of Indigenous knowledge where appropriate
  • Assist with research design, implementation, and analysis;
  • Support preparation of proposals; and
  • Contribute to networking and business development.

  • Desired education, attributes, and experience:

    You have:
  • Master's degree or equivalent of lived or work experience in social science or related experience in the field of natural sciences;
  • 4–8+ years of related work experience;
  • A strong understanding of systemic issues faced by Indigenous communities, reconciliation, inclusion and equity, and Indigenous governance;
  • Experience in Indigenous engagement, working with Indigenous communities, and/or natural resource management;
  • Excellent oral communication skills (e.g., networking, meeting and presentation facilitation);
  • Technical ability preparing and delivering research that includes data collection, compilation and analysis; and
  • Excellent skills in technical report writing and other forms of written documentation.

  • A strong critical thinker; and
  • Open to potential travel and occasional work in remote communities and locations as required.

    Salary: $72,000 - $115,000. We extend an invitation to applicants of all levels to submit their candidacy for this role. Please be advised, that in the course of our assessment of your qualifications, we retain the right to adjust the seniority classification of the position accordingly.
