    The role of the Cumulative Effects Senior Environmental Specialist is to manage certain files related to cumulative effects, ecosystem health, relationship building, and to support the Treaty, Lands and Resources department on related initiatives.

    The Cumulative Effects Senior Environmental Specialist is part of a team focused on understanding current and past ecosystem conditions in Burrard Inlet, changing TWN harvesting opportunities, and colonial impacts on TWN rights and lifeways since European contact.

    This position will include leading projects, or working in collaboration with staff, consultants, and academic partners, focused on present and past TWN harvesting practices; Additionally, the role will support developing materials to communicate TWN's cumulative effects work externally and include involvement in other TWN-led environmental initiatives.

    Works closely and collaboratively with the Cumulative Effects Manager, and other staff in the Treaty, Lands and Resources Department to advance the department's mandate, and program planning.

    Working with TWN community and community members to understand connections to TWN territory and harvesting practices.

    Project manage and coordinate a variety of files, including survey-based studies on current TWN harvesting practices, research focused on historical and present-day ecological conditions and pre-contact harvesting practices, and ongoing or new field-based data collection programs.

    Represent Tsleil-Waututh on project files and build relationships with external partners, agencies, and proponents.

    Directly communicates with Crown governments, agencies, proponents, and other First Nations on a technical level, signing off on technical level communications.

    Act as primary point of contact for project partners (e.g. consultants, external research partners etc.).
    Advancing TWN's vision and role in developing new governance and decision-making structures, and environmental protections for Burrard Inlet.
    Reviews, drafts and edits departmental, program and project reports and documentation as required.
    Assist with the implementation and delivery of other Department initiatives as directed.

    Post-secondary degree in Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources Planning, Fisheries Sciences, Archaeology, or a related field, plus three to five (3-5) years of highly relevant work experience including project management, policy analysis, and work involving Aboriginal Rights and Title.

    Master's degree considered an asset.
    May consider alternate combinations of education and relevant work experience.

    Direct field experience such as planning and conducting marine scientific studies and/or restoration projects, and ability to participate in boat-based field work.

    Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
    Strong project management skills, with ability to create workplans, complete deadlines and objectives independently.
    Brings a creative and unconventional approach to problem solving.
    Ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure; demonstrate flexibility, cooperation, and ability to shift priorities rapidly.

    Able to participate and complete in job-related workshops, training, seminars, and conferences to upgrade skills and training as required.

    Occasional fieldwork in variable weather, and in and around water
    Environmental Conditions
    Dynamic environment with multiple demands, changing priorities and constant interruptions.
    Highly sensitive legal, confidential, and political issues and environment.
    Occasional meetings outside normal office hours.
    Hybrid of work from home and in office work, with a presence in office required.
    Monday – Friday: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
    Offices are closed on holidays
