    Taxation Policy Division/ Corporate and Commodity Taxation Branch
    Are you passionate about policy and economics? Do you want to help shape Ontario's taxation policy, particularly for corporate or commodity tax?

    We are hiring two individuals who can offer invaluable insights and advice in developing and designing corporate or commodity tax measures.

    Your role will involve conducting economic and policy analysis, developing options for implementing new tax structures as well as crafting and communicating policy options related to the legislative and administrative framework of proposed tax measures.

    Your role will also involve developing and communicating material related to Ontario's existing corporate and commodity tax systems. 1 permanent position in the Commodity Tax Policy Unit
    1 permanent position in the Corporate Tax Policy Unit

    Effective April 1, 2024 the salary range for this position is $88,496.00 per year in compliance with AMAPCEO collective agreement provisions.

    The new rates, effective retroactive to April 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

    The Corporate and Commodity Taxation Branch provides advice and assistance to the Minister of Finance and the government in formulating corporate, sales and commodity tax policy and ensures that tax legislation and regulations effectively express the province's tax policies.

    In addition, it identifies opportunities to improve existing legislation and regulation, supports the Minister in the legislature during the passage of legislation and provides advice on requests for remission orders and Orders in Council for corporate, sales and commodity taxes.

    Initiate technical and legislative research and analysis


    • Lead the development of tax policy options and briefing material
    • Provide advice on policy options and the technical and legislative aspects of corporate or commodity taxation
    • Lead the design of legislative options and ensure draft legislation and regulations support the intent of the underlying policy
    • Advise senior management and ministry officials on tax issues, trends and developments
    • Develop work plans and advise on appropriate strategies for updating tax legislation
    • Lead and coordinate group projects and provide guidance to colleagues and junior staff

    Technical Knowledge:

    • You have knowledge of tax policies, programs or statues in order to develop policy and provide technical guidance and advice to senior management and to draft related legislation
    • You have knowledge of government structure, policy and legislative and decision-making processes
    • You have knowledge of administrative practices and standards to ensure administrative and enforcement practices reflect provincial policy intent and regulatory structures
    • You can translate policy intent into detailed legislative options and recommendations
    You have skills in research, statistical and economical techniques, principles and methodologies


    • You can conduct research, design analysis and develop recommendations for policy proposals
    • You can extract and analyze data, identify emerging issues and determine the research and analysis required for developing solutions, proposals and policy options
    You can prepare briefing and communications materials to support policy change and tax legislation recommendations


    • You can visualize, synthesize and communicate quantitative and qualitative data and information
    • You can respond to issues, provide recommendations, and explain policy information
    You have relationship management skills to establish stakeholder linkages, collaborate on projects, provide/exchange information and discuss technical issues


    • You have advisory, negotiation and influencing skills to provide advice, briefings and explanations on policy recommendations and guide senior management decision-making
    • You have knowledge of project management methodologies, guidelines and processes to conduct/lead government policy and legislative design projects
