    Senior Counsellor (previously Team Leader)

    Location:
    Camp Bonaventure - Sandy Beach, th Ave SW or Cambrian Heights Community Association, 600 Northmount Drive NW

    Mandatory Training Dates :
    June , 2024 (Camp Wide Training), July 20, 2024 (Mid Summer Training/Team Building)

    As an agency, we focus on bringing inclusive and accessible recreation programming to the people who mean the most to us, our members Between Friends runs age appropriate, high quality programs and services in our community for both adult and youth participants.

    One of our most popular programs is Camp Bonaventure, which is a fun, outdoor, pan-ability summer day camp for youth ages 4-17.

    Activities at Camp Bonaventure include swimming, sailing, canoeing, games, crafts, yoga, gardening, and much much more
    What will you be doing as a Senior Counsellor?

    As a Senior Counsellor for Camp Bonaventure you will be responsible for direction, supervision, and mentorship of up to 5 Junior Counsellors.

    You will directly support Junior Counsellors to implement safe, engaging, and inclusive programming for one age group.

    You will be responsible for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all campers in your group including, medication administration, personal care, behaviour support, and programming.

    This position directly reports to the Camp Supervisor, Programming or Camp Manager, North Site.
    Provide supervision, direction, support, and leadership to up to 5 Junior Counsellors
    Provide ongoing feedback and recognition to Junior Counsellors and ensure that appropriate evaluations are completed in a timely manner
    Ensuring all program activities are planned with the highest standard of quality and safety; age appropriate, variety of activities, adaptable to different abilities, will include extra activities/ backup plans in the event of unforeseen changes (i.e. downtime, weather, facility closure, etc.)
    training will be provided

    Training will be held from June 1- June 27th, with your first day with Campers beginning on July 1st.

    Training days are 8:30 - 4:30 PM unless otherwise noted on the training schedule
    July - August - work in person from Camp Bonaventure
    Monday - Friday, estimated 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
    Occasional evening and/or weekends may required for training and meetings
    Saturday, August 2- primarily focused on end of summer wrap up administrative duties as set by the Program Coordinator
    Mandatory Mid Summer Training and encouraged Team Building - July 20, 2024
    Previous experience working at camps considered an asset.
    P revious experience working with youth, considered an asset
    Caring - You welcome and celebrate people with empathy and dignity. Ability to provide support to participants requiring lifts and transfers, and personal care support.
    Previous experience developing and implementing programming, considered an asset.
    Safe - You value creating and maintaining safe spaces to promote inclusion and fun
    Experience working with people with disabilities and/or youth would be considered an asset.
    Experience in a supervisory role and/or summer camp work would be beneficial, but not a requirement
    Ability to provide support to participants requiring lifts and transfers, and personal care support
