    The role

    Reporting to the CEO. the Director, Operations is responsible for all aspects of the airport operations, spanning the day to day to long-term strategic planning and includes accountability for airfield and groundside operations. As a key member of the senior management team, the position is responsible for developing and implementing annual business plans, budgets and long-term capital plans and participating in board meetings. The Director, Operations interacts with internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the operation of a world class airport that has a focus on safety, security, cleanliness, efficiency and customer service.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Oversees all operational aspects, including airside, landside and terminal operations, safety and security, emergency response and stakeholder management by:
      • In collaboration with the rest of the GMIA leadership team, establishes a vision to help guide the development and implementation of departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures
      • Works with the GMIA leadership, Vantage and the GMIAA Board of Directors to develop and implement strategies to increase operational effectiveness, capacity and efficiency
      • Provides strong and engaged leadership and direction to reports to ensure effective operations
      • Coordinating construction and infrastructure maintenance activities and projects on airside and groundside while ensuring minimum disruption in airside services or impacts
      • Ensuring compliance with all regulatory and legislated requirements
      • Managing relationships with internal and external stakeholders including employees, airlines, community and tenants
      • Services as an ambassador for the airport in the community
      • Overall accountability for the Airport's emergency response plan
    • Involved in the creation of and execution on annual business planning and budgeting process along with the redevelopment and implementation of the multi-year airport master plan
    • Provides reports and presentations to the CEO and the Board of Directors on a regular and as-needed basis
    • Represents the airport externally with government and industry stakeholders in a variety of settings
    • Works with the Director, Finance & Admin, is responsible for Operations risk management
    • Other duties commensurate with the position as needed

    Principales responsabilités

      • Assurer le respect de toutes les exigences réglementaires et législatives.
      • Gérer les relations avec les parties prenantes internes et externes, y compris les employés, les compagnies aériennes, la collectivité et les locataires.
      • Agir à titre d'ambassadeur de l'aéroport dans la collectivité.
      • Être responsable du plan d'intervention d'urgence de l'aéroport.
    • Participer à la création et l'exécution du processus annuel de budgétisation et de planification des activités, ainsi qu'à l'élaboration et la mise en œuvre du nouveau plan directeur pluriannuel de l'aéroport.
    • Fournir des rapports et des présentations à la directrice générale et au conseil d'administration sur une base régulière et au besoin.
    • Représenter l'aéroport à l'externe auprès des parties prenantes du gouvernement et de l'industrie dans divers contextes.
    • Travailler avec le directeur des finances et administration sur la gestion des risques d'exploitation.
    • S'occuper d'autres tâches en rapport avec le poste selon les besoins.

    About You

    • Requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering, Airport Operations or a related field, with at least 8 years' experience in progressive roles; experience as part of the leadership team for an organization an asset
    • Demonstrated ability to lead people and change
    • Strong project management, business and financial acumen
    • Track record of successfully managing and motivating teams, both in unionized and non-unionized work environments, including experience leading teams through change
    • Bilingualism would be an asset
    • Strategic, results-oriented leader with strong business acumen
    • Demonstrates high level of ownership and accountability
    • A natural collaborator and team builder who is engaged and committed, with a roll-up-your sleeves approach to challenge
    • Continuous improvement mindset; open to input, new ideas and new responsibilities
    • Organized and able to prioritize, with very good attention to detail
    • Excellent communication and influencing skills
    • Experience in interaction with a board of directors and in matters of board governance
    • Must have experience building complex operations including people, processes and systems
    • Quick learner, early adapter of new methods, processes and technologies
