    Description

    What you will do

    The Mechanical Engineer Co-op Student will be responsible to collaborate in designing, developing, and testing mechanical components, machinery, and equipment by contributing academic and applied knowledge of engineering principles. The student is expected to develop their technical skills while applying their academic knowledge to gain practical experience.

    How you will do it

    • Collaborate and assist the Engineering Department in designing, developing, manufacturing and testing machines such as motors, tools, instruments, and other mechanical devices.
    • Apply academic knowledge towards energy systems, applied mechanics, machine design, manufacturing, plant engineering, and maintenance.
    • Review the design and development of HVAC equipment with components such as chilled water coils, heat exchangers, humidifiers, gas furnaces, and DX systems.
    • Review and provide recommendations on improving upon engineering schematics and specifications prepared by consultants, ensuring designs are safe, efficient, effective, and practical.
    • Work under the direction of the Mechanical Engineering Manager in conducting final inspection and recommend acceptance, improvements, or rejection of completed designs.
    • Collaborate and assist the Engineering Department with the development of project plans, project costing, and coordinating the efforts of other engineers, technicians, designers, and drafters to support cross-functional collaboration.
    • Assist with the creation and maintenance of comprehensive project documentation.
    • Collaborate with other departments (e.g. Shop Floor, Applications, Purchasing, IT, etc.) to ensure project success.
    • Ensure ongoing compliance with local, national, and international standards and legislation.

    What we look for

    • Working towards a University degree in Mechanical Engineering.
    • Basic academic understanding of thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
    • Experience with AutoCAD and other 3-D imaging software is an asset.
    • Ability to converse and collaborate with multiple departments spanning multiple disciplines.
    • Basic knowledge and understanding of risk analysis and relevant legislative compliance.
    • Highly motivated and self-directed, capable of multi-tasking, and able to work with minimal supervision.
    • Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Office suite.
    • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude.
