    Family Day Care Services is a non-profit, charitable organization with a long and distinguished history of providing high-quality early learning and child care services to children and families throughout Toronto, York and Peel Regions. We are a multi service organization with over 500 employees, providing a broad range of services including: 24 Child Care Centres, 32 Before and After Care programs, 204 Licensed Home Child Cares, 6 Early ON programs, 2 Homework Plus programs, and Special Needs Resourcing for children and their families living in the Greater Toronto Area.

    Position Summary:

    The Financial Analyst collaborates in the preparation of the Agency's internal annual budget as well as budget submissions to regional/provincial governments and other agencies. The position is responsible for the preparation of quarterly reporting to Regions on all EarlyON programs; prepares the analysis of grants utilization for regional governments as required.

    Job Duties:

  • Under the direction of the Manager, Finance the Financial Analyst coordinates the preparation of the annual agency budget
  • Assists Program Managers in budget submissions to regional governments
  • Assists the Manager, Finance in preparation of the United Way budget submission
  • Prepares year-to-date financial reports to the Regional Governments
  • Prepares quarterly wage subsidy utilization, journal entries and reconciliations
  • Prepares Annual Grants utilization report for regional government
  • Assists with preparation of monthly financial statements and reviews same
  • Variance analysis of monthly general ledger and financial statements.
  • Revenue recognition, funds analysis and complete government documents
  • Maintains year-end audit schedules
  • Reconciles balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
  • Prepares annual returns (i.e. Charity Information Return, etc.)
  • Completes GST returns semi-annually
  • Completes Statistics Canada reporting
  • Prepares and posts payroll journal entries
  • Other assignments as directed by the Manager, Finance

    • Education, Skills and Experience Required

    ·Completion of Post-secondary education with a CPA designation or enrollment in CPA, CMA, CGA, CA

    ·Three to five years financial accounting, auditing and/or budgeting experience

  • Experience in a not-for-profit sector is preferred
  • Knowledge of the application of principles and practices employed in effective financial analysis and research, budget development and control techniques and processes
  • Strong analytical, research, problem solving and resolution abilities
  • Ability to communicate results of analysis and effectively interact with leaders at all levels of the organization
  • A team player that will think strategically and effectively when faced with difficult challenges
  • Highly organized and efficient to prioritize and work effectively in a deadline oriented environment
  • Ability to work with minimal direction, including ensuring that all work aligns with program and Agency goals
  • Strong project management skills
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Excel (including pivot tables, macros, V-lookups)
