All slang is a metaphor, and all metaphor is poetry.
All slang is a metaphor, and all metaphor is poetry. G. K. Chesterton, (1901) I found this an interesting quote by Chesterton as it gave me something to think about. I believe that slang changes as young people define their own metaphors for life. So I understand that the poetr ...

I'm not sure they are compatible, Javier. The people who run things in the US tend to be driven to wring as much profit as they can out of their businesses. So workers and suppliers get squeezed. They have very little respect for anybody's profit motive bu their own. It 's very dog eat dog down there.

I believe that the American dream is still possible, but its enormous wealth and knowledge contrast shockingly with the conditions in which large numbers of its citizens live. Some 40 million live in poverty, 18.5 million in extreme poverty and 5.3 million live in conditions of extreme poverty typical of the third world. I prefer the European model in social matters and the American model in business matters, although perhaps they are not compatible ? Or are they?

Actually their net worth is low, they are just wealthy. We can make all the money equal among everyone this very moment, and within 5 years I would predict almost everyone would be back where they where. It is mindset our have we spend money.
The poor will spend it and it will be gone. The mass of people who work for the corporations will take their money and buy liabilities keeping them trapped again in a cycle of paying expenses or (the rat race). Those on-top will again keep buying, and creating assets, while reinvesting.
Just are you taught your children to take the correct path, sadly the mass of people are unaware that it even exists or will not take it out of fear.

Yoiu many know a few well off young people. But I wuld argue they are part of that one percent. I'm talking about the mass of people out there who do the work for the rich corporations, and have never been compensated enough to get themselves ahead of the game. I do agree about financial education. My wife and I (both entrepreneurs) took the time to teach our kids how the game is played, and both of them are doing very well and have never had to as for a cent from us to help them out.

I would say that the American Dream is more relevant today than ever, just NOT through a method of a job.
Some of the wealthiest people I know are in their late 20's to early 40's. This is because they have do NOT rely on a job or government handouts.
A job is linear and impossible to keep up with the Rule of 72.
Most of them just learned how to take advantage of infinite opportunities of income online. They then put a large percentage of their monthly CASHFLOW into Assets creating both capital gain and passive income to reinvest or to do as they please.
The richest person I know is broke. He has a very high-paying job but no time. The moment he retires, the majority of that income is gone. Sadly, his lifestyle is almost equal to his pay.
Opportunity is everywhere, but I feel most people today do not know what it looks like or are unwilling to take a risk when it knocks on their door.
This is one reason I feel financial education is so important in schools, but it is not taught. Sadly, this is because of corrupt politicians. If a voter knew how to take care of themself, the politician might lose their vote.
It is up to each individual to SEEK and FIND their dream.
