20 & Sunny. It Just Doesn’t Get Any Better Than That.

20 & Sunny. It Just Doesn’t Get Any Better Than That.

20 & Sunny. It’s Just Doesn’t Get Any Better Than That.
I just went out for a bike ride. I didn’t have any particular destination in mind I just wanted to go over there somewhere and back.
I do this every morning, weather permitting, as it helps me to wake up and loosen up. Because mainly I spend my days sitting right here doing stuff like this.
Mostly my writing is stuff I get paid to do. But I am a writer and writers write regardless. Today I’m waiting for a client to send me some info on a section I have to write to finish his web site.
Between waiting for clients to get organized, waiting for their approvals and waiting to see the layouts for everything you write, there’s a lot of waiting involved in the writing of communications.
And since I’m actively involved in waiting this morning, I am writing this.
20 & Sunny….
20 & Sunny. It’s Just Doesn’t Get Any Better Than That.

Where I am sitting there is a big picture window just over the top of my computer screen. Today I can see that the trees across the street have grown tired of waiting for ‘spring’ to arrive and have started to green despite the weird weather we have been having so far.
Today the temperature is also cooperating, and the forecast is 20 & Sunny…which is exactly the phase that most Canadians like to hear. And would be happy to hear all year round.
Most Americans don’t understand what 20 degrees means. So for them let’s call it 72.
20 degrees means shorts and Hawaiian shirts. 20 degrees means no socks and sandals. 20 degrees means a little sunblock on your exposed body parts. 20 degrees means sitting in the back yard or the patio of your favourite pub with a tall one in your hand and some people to argue with about sports or politics or whatever.
But mostly 20 degrees means perfect comfort. Especially for a bike rider like me. It means riding without gloves or earmuffs or scarves or layers of any sort. To people of my ilk, this is the most glorious feeling of all.
When it’s 20 & Sunny, you may have a passing thought about how fucked up a lot of stuff in the world is at the moment. But for some reason it doesn’t bother you as much as it would if it were, say 5 below & snowing.
When it’s 20 & Sunny, everything is right with the world.
Oh sure ... the terrorist threat is still out there and looming.
The Trump threat is out there and looming even more ominously than the terrorist threat.
The climate change threat is out there and looming, despite the fact that some people believe this is nothing more that a new climate cycle that Mother Nature has launched.
The “Next Recession Is Just Around The Corner” threat is looming, and it’s tied directly to all the other threats.
But what the fuck. It’s 20 & Sunny. How am I supposed to worry about all that crap when it’s so beautiful outside and it’s been so long since it’s been this way?
The answer is simply this. It won’t be 20 & Sunny forever. It never is. So you have plenty of time to worry about all that other stuff. While it’s so beautiful out,  I have chosen to think about things that are a little more pleasant.
Good 20 & Sunny Thoughts
My NBA team the Raptors, won against the Miami Heat last night and tied their series, thus preserving home court advantage.
My MLB team, the Blue Jays, trounced the Texas Rangers (12-1) who are likely to be their main competition in getting to the World Series this year, and took three out of the four games in their series with the Rangers.
I have finished a lot of work lately and have more coming up shortly. So that makes me happy and keeps my wife in the manner to which she has grown accustomed.
I appear to have found a receptive audience for my blogging here on BeBee, because there are obviously a lot of enlightened souls here. So thank you for that.
I have just replaced the gear switcher and the tires on my bike for the summer, so my ride is very sweet indeed.
We are having our contractor come over next week to give us a price on adding an addition to the house that will give us a little indoor outdoor environment and fix the steep stairs to the basement. So that’s cool too.
But my most important 20 & Sunny thought is about my own good fortune.
I live in a part of my city that’s like a small town. It’s an extremely pleasant place to live. I am close to everything I need and can get anywhere I need to go relatively quickly.
We are also very close to and good friends with our kids and get to see them almost weekly, which is something a lot of people don’t get to do with their kids.
My kids have both grown into amazing adults. My son manages bakeries and my daughter is a writer…an even better writer than me, in fact, and is in the process of getting her first novel published.
This is a very good life, and because it is, it allows me to write posts about  a lot of the insanity I see circling all around me, with a certain amount of detachment.
My only wish for the world is that everybody could be as lucky as me.
A lot of people have told me that you make your own luck…but I don’t know about that. I think this is all just a crapshoot, and I threw some sevens.
But whatever it actually is, it’s been good and I am thankful and hopeful that will be good for quite some time to come.
I also wish the same for you…20 & Sunny forever.

Don't you find, Jim Murray, that cycling, like most forms of exercise, clears the head and allows busy little worker bees to produce honey?

Pablo....I love it. I think we should all give ourselves Spanish Middle names in honour of our new friends. I will be Jim Pedro Murray, Phil can be Phil Benicio Freidman and Milos can be Milos Fredrico Djukic

Thanks . Your assessment is correct. I have weaned myself off of constantly bitching about LinkedIn, except of course, with Phil. This is how I used to write before I started posting on LinkedIn. Now I just use it as a pickup site for Richard Di Pilla, Phil's WWACO and Paul Drury's blogpoets. beBee is much more me than LinkedIn. I never went to LI to get business, because that happens through my network here in TO and through referrals, so blogging was the only reason I was there. When that went south, I got pissed and it started tainting my work. I now consider myself back to normal. I won't quit LI but I certainly am nowhere near as active as I used to be. Thanks for noticing. That makes me feel all 20 & Sunny.

Jim Murray I see you are in a 'happy' place... 20 and sunny brings out more thankfulness (at least in this part of the world) than that turkey induced stupor we celebrate in the fall. TTYL I'm going for a walk. Unlike you, I do not have a new gear shifter on my bike.
