    Role Responsibilities

    The Rangeland Stewardship and Land Use Policy Section is currently seeking a Provincial Rangeland Programs and Issues Lead. As a prospective incumbent for this role, you will provide provincial leadership and coordination of the Provincial Rangeland Programs and Issues Unit.

    Reporting to the Manager, Rangeland Stewardship and Programs, the Provincial Rangeland Programs and Issues Lead develops and operationally delivers provincial consistency of Rangeland Programs and related issues. This position plays a key role in liaison and engagement with key stakeholders to successfully deliver rangeland programs including recreational access on agricultural leases, feral horse knowledge and management, terrestrial invasive species and Provincial Grazing Reserves.

    The position provides leadership and expertise to leverage results through collaborative partnerships with cross- ministry and industry stakeholders, municipalities and non-government environmental organizations.

    As an integral part of the team, you will have strong creative problem-solving skills to ensure that challenging multi-stakeholder issues can be resolved. As the lead, you will drive for results by proactively delivering outcomes and results in an effective and timely manner to meet public and stakeholder expectations. You will take a strategic systems thinking approach to determine how best to stage solutions to complex issues. As the incumbent, you must address risk, adjust approaches based on broader initiatives and utilize practice area socialization of solutions to ensure effective staging and implementation occurs.

    Qualifications

    Requirements:

    • University Degree in: Rangeland Management, Agriculture, Environmental Science, or a related degree with appropriate specialization.
    • Minimum of 7 years directly related advanced experience in rangeland management, or equivalent as described below.
    Equivalency:

    Master's degree in Range Management, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, or a related Master's degree with appropriate specialization, plus a minimum of four years related experience in the field of rangeland management.
    • Please note that candidates with lesser qualifications may be considered at a lower classification level and salary.
    Assets:
    • Knowledge of rangeland management and agricultural practices.
    • Candidates must have or be eligible for a Professional Agrologist membership with the Alberta Institute of Agrologists with the ability to work in the rangeland and pasture management practice area.
    • Experience and understanding of livestock grazing industry specifically rangeland program development and the integration with policy.
    • Experience with spatial data management, ecology, and landscape processes and function.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of related legislation, regulations, policies, and the decision-making processes.
    • Well developed knowledge of extension and information packaging.
    • Familiarity with ministry strategic plans, objectives, and mandates.
    • Capacity to build and maintain productive relationships with various stakeholders within and outside the GoA.
    • Leadership in managing diverse, multi-disciplinary projects and processes.
    • Strong analytical skills to evaluate complex issues and synthesize actionable recommendations.
    • Independence in task execution with general direction, coupled with agility to handle broader initiatives as assigned.
    • Exceptional organizational management skills to balance competing demands and tight timelines.

    Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Some travel will be required (about 25% of time)
