- Leading the forest resource management team in the development of forest management plans (FMPs) for both Forest Management Agreements (FMA) and Non-FMA Forest Management Units.
- Devising effective strategies to oversee forested public lands, considering factors such as forest health, economic development, wildfire prevention, biodiversity (including fisheries and wildlife), and legislation.
- Contributing to the continual improvement of the provincial Forest Planning process through demonstrated Project Management Skills and performance monitoring.
- Identifying and addressing new forest management challenges through problem-solving initiatives.
- Implementing effective internal communication strategies to facilitate collaboration and information flow.
- Ensuring that approved forest management plans align with sub-regional plans and support provincial forest management strategies.
- Developing provincial policies, manuals, and standards to ensure the sustainable management of Alberta's forested public lands through appropriate forest management planning.

Role Responsibilities
The Senior Forester planning leads the development of detailed forest management plans and multi-stakeholder planning teams by coordinating, facilitating, directing, and achieving sustainable forest management outcomes based on Alberta Forest Planning Standard administered by Forest Stewardship and Trade Branch (FSTB).
This position is accountable for managing external communication and leading interpretation of applicable legislation, policies, and guidelines while providing guidance for complex forest management issues and balancing ecological, social, indigenous, economic interests under integrated resource management paradigm. Through engagement with forest industry, technical subject matter experts, regional staff, and other GoA ministry partners, the Senior Forester Planning ensures all developed plans support Alberta's sustainable forest management goals and objectives.
