- Undertake strategic assessments of energy usage and other contributors to GHG emissions to identify potential optimization opportunities or prevalent issues.

- Seek integrated energy management and emissions reductions solutions and ensure they are proven, current and 'best in class' and meet current standards and regulations.
- Develop and ensure energy and emissions benchmarking, performance and metering and monitoring practices. Report GHG emissions to government, as required by Code and regulations.
- Research, apply and manage grants and incentives to help fund projects and initiatives.
- Review new space and facilities adaptation proposals with emissions reduction considerations.
- Co-manage USask's Sustainability Revolving Fund with the Manager – FS&E
- Engage and oversee consultants and related projects as required.

Description
Primary Purpose: To find ways to lower utility usage across campus, leading to lower GHG emissions, more efficient building systems and reduced expenditures. The position will work collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team as the lead in advancing initiatives and continually enhancing business practices as they relate to utility management and reduction in GHG emissions, for all facets of campus operations. The work will also include advising and engaging the university community in the importance of sustainable initiatives and the benefits they bring.
Nature of Work: Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Sustainability and Engineering, this position plays the lead role in advancing initiatives that contribute to an environmentally responsible campus pertaining to all aspects of energy management and the reduction of GHG emissions.
The successful proponent will be a vocal advocate for sustainable initiatives on campus, working together with different levels of the institution to bring awareness and garner support for pushing USask towards a sustainable future. Justification for sustainable projects will be required, including technical and financial assessments of potential projects. This position is also responsible for understanding current energy usage levels and reporting of GHG emissions to federal departments as required. Through this work, the Sustainability and Emissions Officer will identify year-over-year trends to pinpoint short and longer term actions that lower energy or water usage.
Work in this role will have considerable bearing on the university's achievement of energy reduction targets. Independent action and the ability to influence others and achieve results in a team environment are essential.
Typical Duties or Accountabilities:
Education: An undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering is preferred, or a facilities management related business degree, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and proven experience. Designation as a Certified Energy Manager and LEED accredited professional and familiarity with GHG emissions protocols and regulations, energy modeling and assessment systems (e.g. RETScreen) would be considered as strong assets.
Experience: A minimum of six years of related experience in the field of buildings engineering, or energy management and GHG emissions, is required. A thorough understanding of sustainability and the built environment is required including electrical and mechanical systems and utilities infrastructure. Working knowledge of ISO14064 greenhouse gas reporting would be an asset.
Skills: Highly motivated and self-directed, creative and versatile with an aptitude for working in a team- oriented atmosphere; strong leadership with good judgment and the ability to foster and influence change; demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective and cooperative relationships; exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; effective problem analysis and resolution skills; proven decision- making, organizational and prioritization skills and the ability to successfully manage multiple projects on a frequent and ongoing basis.
