- Responsible for delivery of semi-monthly salaried, weekly hourly, and quarterly board of director payrolls, in compliance with regulations and company policies.
- Ensure the timely and accurate processing of payroll including: salaries, bonuses, premiums and allowances, overtime, garnishments, deductions, taxable benefits, and taxes.
- Maintain current knowledge regarding applicable legislation (federal and provincial), best practices, and industry standards.
- Manage year-end and year-begin activities, including annual returns, year-end processing, reconciliations, reporting, and T4 and T4A balancing and issuance.
- Oversee time and attendance management.
- Support business continuity plan for payroll, SOX audit controls and reporting, and respond to internal and external audit requests.
- Partner with Accounting to reconcile payroll-related general ledger accounts.
- Answer payroll related inquiries from employees, management, government, and legal entities in a timely manner; escalate complex inquiries as required.
- Partner with Global Mobility and U.S. Payroll on inpat/expat and foreign business travelers' pay.
- Collaborate with other functional areas on payroll issues and projects.
- Support the continuous identification, implementation, and documentation of process improvements to streamline payroll activities and system integrations.
- Initiate Workday payroll configuration change requests and complete system testing, training, documentation and change management.
- Support the administration of the benefits and savings programs.
- Review and reconcile savings and pension contributions and benefits invoices.
- Collaborate with service providers to resolve employee benefits and savings concerns.
- Provide support and backup coverage as needed for U.S. payroll and benefits administration.
- Minimum 8 years of progressive payroll experience in a mid-sized corporation.
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation with the National Payroll Institute.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office computer skills (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), MS Teams, and SharePoint, with a desire to learn new skills as required.
- Post-secondary education such as a diploma or degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or related discipline.
- Experience in Workday payroll, US payroll and administration of group benefits or retirement savings plan.

The Opportunity
Our Total Rewards team is looking to add an #EnergyProblemSolver in Calgary to lead our payroll processing and benefits administration for approximately 500 Canadian employees.
Reporting to the Manager, Total Rewards, we are seeking an energetic and self-motivated Senior Payroll Specialist. In this role, the selected candidate will be able to work independently with minimal supervision. The ideal individual will have the proven skills, competencies, and capacity to reliably and accurately deliver payroll processing and administer employee benefits. They will collaborate closely with internal teams as well as external vendors to ensure efficient and effective payroll and benefits administration.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to take on increased responsibilities in a key position supporting our company's total rewards program.
