- The Manager is responsible for a significant portionof strategic planning to ensure growth and sustainability of the program, inclose collaboration with applied research leadership and the businessdevelopment team. The Manager is responsible for overseeing these funds andensuring they are administered responsibly in close conjunction with theFinancial Coordinator assigned to the program.
- Supervision of all program employees, the number ofwhich may increase in the future as the program expands. The Manager will berequired to exert influence on the program team to ensure successful projectoutcomes.
- Assimilating high-level technical knowledge to engagewith partners and communicate in written and verbal form.
- Project oversight through maintaining awareness ofproject obstacles, milestone completions, and resource needs and coordinationof staff and students.
- Program growth, overseeing andforecasting the number, type, and growth of project activity within theprogram. This requires balancing the skill sets and capacity of the staff withthe emergent needs of community partners and making strategic decisions thatguide the program toward greater capacity and revenue growth.
- Partner engagement, with regular travel to remotecommunities expected
- Effective project management skills with experience inleading multidisciplinary teams and in managing complex budgets
- Ability to navigate the funding environment availableto post-secondary institutions
- Advanced technical writing and presentation skills and theability to write grant proposals
- Knowledge of Indigenous language, protocols, customs,community perspectives and challenges
- Knowledge of United Nations Declaration on the Rightsof Indigenous Peoples, Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls toAction, and Indian Act
- An aptitude for recognizing and responding toopportunities for new value creation
- Minimum: University degree, Master's (or higher)preferred, in a technical field related to the work done in the program(Analytical Chemistry or similar)
- Qualification in project management or equivalent withknowledge of project management techniques and tools
- Minimum of 5 years direct work experience in projectmanagement capacity and proven experience in people management, strategicplanning, and risk management
- Experience working with Indigenous communitiesconsidered an asset
- Experience with influencing a team with experiencelevels ranging from students to technical experts
- Experience in customer and business developmentactivities considered an asset

NAIT Applied Research is workingclosely with Indigenous communities across Treaty 6, 7 and 8 to aid them inestablishing environmental monitoring programs that fit their needs and whichare sustainable. The goal of the program is for communities to gain controlover monitoring the health and condition of their local environment and for thecommunities themselves to be able to develop data-enabled environmentalstewardship strategies.
Reporting to the Director of AppliedScience Operations, the Environmental Monitoring Program Manager will beresponsible for managing a portfolio of projects that could require expertisefrom several scientific disciplines pertinent to monitoring the land and waterresources in communities. The Program Manager will be responsible for theoverall direction, coordination, implementation, execution, control, andcompletion of projects, ensuring consistency with partnership strategy,commitments, and goals.
