    Job Summary

    Reporting to the Supervisor of Operations and working in collaboration with the facility team, the Facility Operator I will provide operational facility cleaning, general maintenance and repair services to facilities while providing excellent customer service. As well, supports the Supervisor of Operations in coordinating and overseeing the work of Facility Operators plus additional administrative duties.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Assist the Supervisor of Operations in developing and monitoring the annual work plan for operations and future capital projects and lead facility projects including but not limited to ice installation & removal, pool shutdowns and pool start-ups
    • Collaborate with a team of facility operators performing facility maintenance duties including general cleaning, refinishing floors, room set-ups and waste collection
    • Create duties and train part-time operations staff and volunteer workers
    • Generate and assign preventative maintenance work orders on various mechanical systems including HVAC, boilers, pool filtration and arena refrigeration equipment
    • Maintain ice surface(s), perform plant readings, use and maintain ice resurfacer machine, pool filtration systems, water chemistry tests, adding chemicals and pool troubleshooting
    • Organize and lead minor maintenance repairs such as but not limited to plumbing, electrical and carpentry
    • Support the Supervisor of Operations with flagging and reporting any major repairs that require a higher level of service or tradesperson or external vendor

    Skills and Qualifications

    • Secondary School diploma with experience working as a Facility Operator, including experience providing technical and hands-on expertise in arenas and pools, and experience planning facility projects and completing them on time
    • Ability to operate an ice resurfacer, edger and various power and hand tools required
    • Ability to prioritize, multitask and work to deadlines in a fast paced environment
    • CIT (Certified Ice Technician) certification including Ice Making and Equipment Operation, Ice Making and Painting Technologies and Legal Awareness I is considered an asset and possession of a "B" (Refrigeration Operator Class B) ticket is required to work at "registered plant facilities" deemed by the Province of Ontario.
    • Knowledgeable in working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), Building Automation Systems (BAS) and Work Order Systems (Work and Service Order Requests)
    • Must be physically capable of carrying out the essential duties of the job
    • Depending on the location, there may be a need to operate City vehicles. Must hold and provide a copy of a valid Ontario Driver's License Class G
    • Professional experience in custodial/janitorial work and facility maintenance
    • Valid CPR, First Aid Certification or willing to obtain in the first six months of employment
    • Current CPO (Certified Pool Operator) certification is considered an asset

    Note: Weekend, evening rotating shift work is required. Successful candidates will need to be prepared for increased mobility, with appropriate notice, in order to fill vacancies, provide developmental opportunities for staff and be responsive to future operational needs or to support the operational structure and its requirements. Travel between facilities will be required.
